Hey Des Moines my Midwest made movie "Winter Hymns" is coming to you for a limited engagement at Flix Brewhouse May 17-20

Hi Des Moines, I'm a filmmaker from Wisconsin very interested in making movies right here in the Midwest. "Winter Hymns" is about a palliative care doctor meeting with dying patients and is based on my dad's work. It's been doing really well in Wisconsin so Flix decided to expand it to neighboring states - I'm especially excited about Iowa because my mom's from Elkader and my whole side of the family is there.

It was shot in WI and the entire cast is from the Midwest. I think there's a lot of familiar characters you'll see in this movie that are in both our states - farmers being bought out by giant corporations, young people struggling to raise a family (while also having a terminal illness...). It's a heavy film but so far people have been digging it and I hope you do too! Tickets are at the Flix website.

Good day Carmelians, Carmelites? I had appalling care through St. V's and I wanted to ask, without sharing a ton about my situation. But has anyone successfully sued St. V's for medical malpractice, negligence or patient abandonment? I'm looking for a lawyer and would like to hear from anyone who may have been in a similar situation or experienced bad care from them? I checked my case Indiana and there a tons of lawsuits. So looking to chat with anyone who might have taken them to court and won.

This intersection is now open again. They’re gathering the equipment at Gray and 126th this minute, so expect that intersection to close very soon.

Hi everyone!

We’re a group of local teens from Carmel involved with BOLD Dance, a nonprofit that provides ballroom dance opportunities for people in the IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities) community. It’s a really meaningful program that focuses on inclusion, confidence, and community through dance.

We recently started a teen-led initiative called TeensForBOLD to help support BOLD Dance, and right now we’re mainly trying to get more connected with the local community.

We’re looking for suggestions for:

  • community events in Carmel or nearby
  • school or charity events
  • local organizations or businesses that work with volunteers or partners
  • any opportunities where we could get involved or help out

We thought this community might be a good place to ask because a lot of people here are involved locally and may know of events or groups we could reach out to.

If anyone has ideas or knows of anything coming up, we’d really appreciate it. Thanks so much for your time!

Lawn mowing recommendations in Carmel?

Looking for recommendations for someone that can do a one-time lawn mow in the Carmel area. My mower has been giving me issues lately and I’m just trying to get the yard cleaned up for now without signing up for a recurring service.

If you haven't heard, the Kawachinagano Japanese Garden recently completed a significant redesign and has officially reopened to the public. The updates include refinements to the pond, enhancements to the northern garden area, and improved stormwater infrastructure for long-term sustainability. The redesign was led by Hoichi Kurisu, former landscape director for the Japanese Garden Society in Oregon.

What makes this garden especially worth visiting — it's one of the only spots in Indiana where you can see cherry blossoms (sakura) in bloom. It's free and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk.

On May 3, Japan SpringFest at Civic Square will include a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the reopening, alongside Japanese drumming, cultural performances, food vendors, kimono try-ons and cosplay photo ops. It's also a great opportunity to learn more about Carmel's sister city relationship with Kawachinagano, Japan. Free to attend.

Hey all! I'm an Environmental Science student at IU coming home for the summer and I've been wracking my brain for summer opportunities that would be related to my field of study (I'd prefer not to go back to retail 😭). Any ideas on where to check or know of anyone who's hiring? Ideally it would be Carmel-based but anything within a 30 minute drive of the arts district is fine. Thanks!
