I’ve committed to bing today over nyu (the cost💔), but now I’m questioning if I made the right choice. I’m so used to being able to walk everywhere in the city and taking the train to wherever. So I’m trying to get an idea of what life at bing is actually like. My main questions are:

  1. Is Bing really in the middle of nowhere?

  2. How hard is it to get around without a car?

  3. How easy is it to find a job?

  4. How easy is it to find opportunities? I’m going on the pre med track

  5. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the area around the school, so I’m a little concerned. Is it safe?

  6. Should I just get a car? But then comes another question, how’s the parking? Where can I park?

Sorry for all the questions, just kinda worried trying to figure things out😭

Students should know that chartwells the new food vendor is completely overhauling the marketplace and getting rid of all the vendors starting May 15th including mein bowl 😭

Hi everyone, I’m deciding between Binghamton University and Queens College (CUNY) and would really appreciate honest input, especially from current students or recent grads.

I’m currently deciding between computer science (leaning toward cybersecurity / security engineering / DevSecOps) or possibly premed, so I’m trying to factor in both paths.

My situation:

- Queens College (Freshman Honors): ~$5k/year (commuting from home)

- Binghamton: ~$31k/year

Worst case, I graduate with $100k+ in debt, though I may be able to reduce that (RA, off-campus, work, aid like NYS STEM Incentive, etc.)

My impressions so far:

- Binghamton seems much stronger academically (especially for STEM), with better campus/facilities and a more traditional college environment which I liked a lot

- QC is much cheaper and in NYC, which could help with internships, but I’ve heard mixed things about professors/admin and consistency of opportunities

- I didn’t like QC’s campus/environment when I visited, and I’d be commuting (living with my grandparents), so I’m concerned that not being fully on campus might affect focus and involvement

- QC also seems to have fewer security-focused electives, which I’m not sure how much that matters long-term

What I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Is Binghamton actually worth ~$25k/year more for CS outcomes, or not really?

  2. How big is the difference in internships, recruiting, and job placement?

  3. If I go to QC and actively grind (projects, internships, networking), am I at a real disadvantage?

  4. For Bing students: is recruiting/network noticeably stronger, or do you still have to push just as hard?

  5. For QC students: how hard is it to stand out and land solid internships/jobs?

I’m trying to make a financial + career ROI decision, not just go where I like the campus more.

Would really appreciate honest perspectives.

Do not go to this school. YOU WILL BE UNEMPLOYED. I repeat, YOU WILL BE UNEMPLOYED. Nobody knows this school outside of 100 mile radius. If you want to party and chase hoes it’s cool tho.

It is FINALS week, and a large number of students report that dining halls and the Union have run out of many food and drink options, with empty fridges, limited meals, very little fresh fare and even NO BREAD at the sandwich bar. Students busy studying are having to DoorDash or travel to shopping centers to get meals - not just as an option but as a necessity. Some students relying on their meal plan may be experiencing true food insecurity as outside food is expensive.
Obviously, with the truly horrible Sodexo exiting the campus, it is scraping out the leftovers from the freezers, and not bringing in new food. Families have PAID for food to be available on campus, and this is inexcusable. Bing needs to deploy emergency food trucks or something. Plus, students deserve a partial refund or credit on dining plans.
FIX THIS FOOD SHORTAGE, BING!!

I feel like I made the wrong choice because of this hindsight bias. Binghamton pros: multiple friends/ acquaintances, get away from family, cheaper with dorm, more likable full campus, ability to switch to STEM if business isn't meant for me...

However, due to pressure from family and also the thought of the "internship promise" at Fordham, I went that, which doesn't feel like what my heart wants. The thought that flashed through my mind that made me finally click the button is that I'll have it better academically- a bit easier? in certain ways- and better network/ prestige. (Not feeling it: Bar culture, not able to dorm because it costs 20k extra and I'll lose thousands of metro grant even though the only thing that'll get me going for here is a cool city view dorm, not long but still annoying commutes, not feeling the vibe of the school or vibing with the school, etc...)

Now decommitting costs 500 dollars.... and how do I ask Bing if I can commit again? Should I go through with it if it's possible? What should I weigh in?

I really need some advice on this! I know this all sounds stupid, fig and tree indecisive, grass is greener on the other side, seeing all the pros of one and cons of another, but yea.....

"New and enhanced offerings across campus include:

- Expanded Halal and Kosher Access — Based on direct student feedback, Halal and Kosher options will be easier to discover and access across campus, including a new all-kosher truck, Nosh & Go, and a Kosher Grab n’ Go program that delivers every day convenience.
- "Delicious Without" Across Campus — Chartwells’ “Delicious Without” program, free from the top nine allergens and gluten, will expand to all four dining halls (C4, CIW, Hinman, and Appalachian), increasing safe and welcoming options for students with food allergies and sensitivities. Two registered dietitians will be available to support students with special dietary needs and preferences.
- International-Inspired Food Hall at C4 — The C4 dining hall will debut a globally inspired food hall featuring Chartwells concepts such as Masala Dabba, an Indian inspired station, and La Mesa, a Latin concept. A dedicated kosher station will continue to serve as a cornerstone of inclusive dining on campus.
- Alumni Roots and Local Flavor — Chartwells is proud to continue its partnership with Chick-N-Bap, a standout alumni-founded favorite, and Royal Indian, a local staple, both of which continue to serve the Binghamton community at the University Union. Building on these campus favorites, the Union is expanding its lineup with the arrival of new regional concepts, Halal Shack and Jamal’s Chicken, which bring even more variety and flavor to the dining experience.
- Revamped Food — Three upgraded food trucks will roll out across campus, expanding access to quick, high-quality dining, including Nosh & Go kosher food truck, Bearcat on the Prowl, and the Daily Sip for convenient, on-the-go access."

Addition of "Jamal's Chicken" makes it sound like it's replacing Tully's

Caught this moment from Rust and Ruin Festival in Syracuse where Normundy covered Bleed It Out and it hit exactly how you would want it to

For anyone who grew up on Linkin Park you already know this song is built for live energy. It was one of their go to set closers because of how easy it is for a whole crowd to jump in and lose it together

Hearing it in a room like The Lost Horizon with a packed crowd just felt right. No big production no tricks just people yelling it back and a band going all in

This is exactly the kind of moment we try to create with these shows

If you are into this kind of thing follow Matt Carter Presents on Facebook and Instagram
We are a DIY promotion with zero ad budget so everything grows through word of mouth and people actually showing up

More shows like this are coming and we are just getting started

There have been a few posts recently about Mein Bowl's future with Chartwells, I want to clarify that I am a student and not associated with Mein Bowl in any way. I just spoke to Mary and she says she would like to continue operating, but Chartwells is doubling the current rent in the Marketplace and Mein Bowl would not be able to survive. She wants us to start a petition or write to Chartwells on their behalf.

I don't have yikyak as I'm on an android, could someone post these details there?

Edit: I think something got lost in translation, another post confirmed 50% of her profits, not doubling the rent. Sodexo had a 30/70 split with her, now chartwells wants a 50/50 split.

Hey guys when do you think they would start sending back waitlist response?

I know people were getting off the waitlist before may 1st but I think it was spring accepted students for the most part. Last year I heard people hearing back right after may 1st.

For a little context: I was waitlisted as an EOP applicant

thx

What are the best dorms for an incoming freshman? I think im between Hinman and Dickinson, but I would like to hear other expierences (and maybe help out other incoming freshmen who are also curious). Ideally, I would prefer more modern and cleaner dorms, active community, and suite style as opposed to corridor. I am not interested in joining a frat. Thanks.

I'm an incoming freshman at Binghamton who's driving 4-5 hours (out of state) to Bing and I was wondering if anyone lived close to the neighborhoods at Bing who could possibly offer me their parking lot or driveway to park my car after moving day and if I ever need to get to places. I'm most likely going to get a job or internship also which might be off campus/out of Binghamton as well as certain appointments for doctors that the bus may not fully accommodate, and I'm not sure if Binghamton SSD would approve my exception for a parking space at one of the lots.

Pictures attached are the neighborhoods I'm referring to btw because apparently it's only a 15-20 minute walk which is ideal for me.

Hi everyone!

I’m a current high school senior who is still undecided. My financial aid package for my top/dream school did not come until the day before yesterday (I was mixed-up with another student) and unfortunately it is too expensive for me to attend. As of right now, these schools are my top options.

For reference, I’m looking to do undergraduate research in a science field (admitted as a chem major), and am looking to pursue a graduate degree or higher academia. I understand that SBU is better for science, but I’m also looking for a school that is more social. I am not too sure about the other colleges. Is the difference between the two for STEM that noticeable?

When I toured it seemed like housing options were great - but i didn't get a sense of "freshmen housing" Does this exist? Im shy and not into Greek life so I want to be where I can meet ppl that are freshmen too- and not have a sophomores etc living right next door if that makes sense. Thx!

Last month, Binghamton told me they wanted my final Spring grades before sending a decision. Basically a waitlist/deferral. I’m just wondering if anyone on here has gotten in for the semester they initially applied for after this has happened?
