Dorming as a NYC resident... 21k to possibly 50k, 60k? URGENT
I have TONIGHT to perhaps de-commit and switch to Binghamton for just 16k. Fordham's great but I want to be away from home and get a college experience at a reasonable cost. Dorming at LC is around 26k with a mandatory meal plan, and I absolutely love the city view they offer, but that comes out to around a 47k cost, NOT counting the fact that my metro grant may be revoked (and for upcoming years too I'm assuming) so it could very well be 62k per year!
I contacted FA office and I'm getting an estimated package in possibly a week, though I can't really wait if I want to switch to Binghamton. If I don't make today's deadline and switch, then I'm going to have to try and appeal my cost or feel miserable as a commuting student. Some other housing rates are as low as 15k without meal plan but I'll be missing out on the view I really desired; picky, I know.
My family makes around 50k for reference!! I haven't applied and deposited for housing yet.
Does anyone have a similar family income and situation and hows your aid? Is it possible to reduce the 62k that I'm speculating to at most a 50k? Will financial aid office let me do my dorming and also give me thousands more in aid since I brought this upon myself as a NYC resident?
