Reactive dog help

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice on how to best discipline and settle down my reactive dog. A quick background - doggo is a 3 year old male staffy cross who knows? He’s very sweet, snuggly, his recall is mostly pretty good but holy hell, he can be a shit. He is high energy boy whom we adopted nearly a year ago. We both work full time but we spend all weekend with both dogs and he gets an afternoon walk a few times a week. That’s difficult because he strongly pulls on his harness.

He annoys our older dog by wanting to shake the bed that old dog just happens to be laying in. In those cases, he gets immediately sent outside for a few minutes to calm down. He’s always pretty settled when he comes back. He can always see us as the door is glass.

He tried to play tug o war with the blankets on our couch, I’ve caught him on our kitchen bench twice. Again, sent out side to settle down.

He barks at anyone who dares to walk past our house. We’ve got a vibration/noise collar that sometimes works but other times, he’s so worked out he just ignores it. He throws his weight against our locked screen door in an effort to get outside to the deck to bark. Our stairs are blocked off with a baby gate to secure both dogs in.

We never take him in public because we know he’ll lose his rag at another dog and we just don’t want to put him in that situation, nor anyone else.

We want to put him into reactive dog training but I’m not sure if that will even work for him? It’s also super expensive (will look into other training schools, it may have been just the one we started him in that was exxy).

I guess any help, suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated regarding how to better discipline, train or adjust his behaviours. Please be kind, we’re at our wits end. We want to help him because he’s everything to us.

Marni and Bess photo dump from today

Marni had a bit of a restless night, first night off the dental surgery pain meds, so we had a slow start to the day and some extra naps, she's ok now thankfully.

No big play to start the day, but they got into a couple of games of bitey face a bit later.

First lickimat Pot today for them both, with frozen yoghurt, they definitely liked that!!

Big day. Little boy.

Fred got to visit the oval this morning, which mostly involves running while squishing his chuckit ball (we don't throw it because he goes too hard and will inevitably hurt himself) and doing tricks. For his afternoon walk he got to go off lead in a big open nature reserve with lots of directions to follow and distractions to ignore (many roos in the distance and a few fox burrows that were tempting). He is physically and mentally exhausted, those ears are still listening out for dinner time though.

Chihuahua or cross breed?

Good morning all,

Just taken in these dogs from my nan who is sick and in hospital.

There is a white one you may see briefly in these pics, she is definitelya pure bread (with papers) chihuahua. She came from the same litter as two of my mums and one of my own dogs.

This one though apparently my uncle just dropped off to her a few years ago 🙄

They've told her chihuahua and I agree but something else is niggling at me about this ones presentation. I have only just got her yesterday but on Monday i will definitely be taking her for a vet check.

My issues are the incredibly long legs and odd posture, she just doesnt present to me as chihuahua, I almost went 'dingo' in initial presentation but seeing as thats like saying your new unverified domestic cat is a ragdoll, i didnt want to rush in with that.

Any thoughts?

The other option being, standard chihuahua breed but malnourished, which is how I am treating her until confirmation from a vet. By that i mean, not rushing the feeds etc, small amounts more often.

Regardless, im obsessed with her, and i will likely keep her myself but i just want to know more about her but my nan has dementia and my uncle isnt around so any help would me very much appreciated🖤

Marni yells at more stuff for existing in her world

Apart from the blower (which is loud) and the wheelbarrow (big and moves) she also yelled at my gardening fork, my spade, the green waste bin, the yard broom, a resin chair, my sack truck and bale of pea straw that I had moved to a different spot.

Default coonhound behaviour apparently.

I just ignore it and eventually she gets over them existing near her because nothing happens. By
