drive up to mt hotham

Coming from melbourne is harrietville or omeo approach better? in terms of safety? i’ll be driving on my own in a 2WD small SUV. I am coming up end of june. i have driven up to mt buffalo before but haven’t gone further into the alpine region.

More specifically, I am driving to dinner plains as that is where my accomodation will be.

Are there people at all hours directing if chains are necessary or not? I would be planning to leave melbourne at 3pm so it would get dark when i’m driving. However, after some research im thinking i should stop halfway (when it gets dark), sleep and then drive early next morning so that I am doing the hard part in daylight?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hotham - contact to amend booking- is it usually slow

Hi

I have been waiting nearly a week to sort out amending a ski booking. Is it usual for Hotham to be really slow to resolve things.

Thanks

Accomodation for GP Placement in Hotham and Falls Creek

I'm a med student doing a 4-week GP placement split between Hotham and Falls Creek. I've been told Bright is the best place to stay but everything I can see on booking.com/airbnb/stayz etc. is way out of my budget. Can anyone recommend cheaper accomodation nearby? Would also love to do a homestay situation. Any tips would be appreciated as I have never been to the area.

Perisher Valley trip with 6yo kids. no car, flying into Canberra. Advice?

Hey all, Planning a winter trip to Perisher for my family (kids are 6). We are QLDers so this is all brand new to us. I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle the logistics

We don't have a car. Is the shuttle/bus from Canberra airport to the snowfields reliable, or is there a better way?

Would you recommend staying in Canberra or finding a place in the valley? We want to "enjoy the most," but I’m not sure if the commute from Canberra is too much with young kids.

Snow-wise, does August usually have more coverage than July?

If you have any hotel suggestions that won't break the bank but are decent for a family of four, please let me know.

If there are any "must-knows" for first-timers, I’m all ears. Cheers.

issues with epic pass australia

Hi there i was wondering if anyone has had this issue or knows any insight or anything that could help.

Last year in october I purchased the epic pass for the 26/27 season, ive had an account with epic for a while as ive been to a few of their resorts previously, but this was my first time purchasing the pass. I did the pay $50 first and the rest later option, a few days ago i was notified the final payment was due and so i paid it received the confirmation email and everything but the pass isn’t showing in the app. I wasn’t sure if it was just because the season didnt start yet.

I was trying to contact the epic help line as my DOB on the account is wrong and i was also trying to check if the pass only shows up once the season technically begins. Every-time i attempt to speak with an agent on the app they say that there is no pass attached to the account and that the order number isn’t connected to a pass. I’m a little bit concerned as it is quite a big purchase, and the customer service is being extremely unhelpful as everytime they say they can’t locate the order they immediately say they can’t help me. Is there any number i can call or email or something?? i just want to know i’m talking to a real person, has anyone had an issue like this?

Kosciusko weather - early June

Some mates and I are looking to do the day trek at Kosciusko during the first week of June. Can anyone tell me what the weather at the moment is like? We did the trek 4 years ago around this time and the snow was easily manageable. Thanks!

Hey everyone 👋

I’m doing some early research to see if there’s a genuine need for more affordable, good‑quality snow gear, particularly for people who are new to skiing or snowboarding and don’t want to spend a fortune just to get started.

The focus is on beginner to intermediate riders who want gear that performs well without paying premium brand prices. I’m also trying to understand whether bundle products (for example, jacket + pants) would actually make it easier and more cost‑effective for someone starting out.

If you’re a beginner or intermediate skier/snowboarder — or if you’ve introduced friends to snow sports before — I’d love your perspective. Would you recommend a good‑value starter bundle to a friend who’s just getting into skiing or snowboarding?

This isn’t a sales pitch — I’m just trying to understand whether there’s a real problem worth solving before I go any further. The survey is short (2–3 minutes) and completely anonymous.

Really appreciate any honest feedback. Happy to share insights back with the community if there’s interest.

How far in advance should I book private lessons?

Looking to get much better at snowboarding this season.

I want to book full or half-day private lessons. However, I ideally want to book the lesson closer to the date, to get better certainty of weather / snow conditions. Other things such as gear, accommodation, etc. are not much of an issue.

Questions:

  • How far in advance will we need to book a private full or half-day snowboarding lesson at Perisher, before they are booked out?
  • If we are able to do weekdays, will there generally be available slots?
  • If we are willing to do Falls Creek or Mt Hotham, could there be more instructors available there?
  • Is it cheaper to book in advance (ie now) compared to closer to the date (ie a week out)?

hi, I'm living in Asia, so researching group tours is difficult. Any advice on hosted group trips to join? I've seen a few going to Queenstown and Wanaka where they get an AirBnB. Looking for a bed in a twin share room, travel together to and from Falls Creek and Hotham. So you just show up with your gear and can ride with a few others and share costs. Any websites or groups doing this?

We're going from Sydney to Perisher. We're not sure to rent snow chains from Cooma or Jindabyne? It's easier for us to pickup from Jindabyne because we're picking up.the skis from there as well but not sure if we need to carry/put on the chains between Cooma and Jindabyne? Can we drive without chains until Jindabyne and pick up from there?

going to work the season at Falls Creek and am staying in Melbourne a bit beforehand. Which shop should I go to so I can buy my entire snowboard setup?
