Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

Consulting firm telling SOU to cut arts and social programs is sponsoring Trump's upcoming Christian nationalist celebration "rededicating America to God"

I just learned that Deloitte, the firm encouraging Southern Oregon University to cut creative writing, music, women and gender studies and international studies is also listed among the primary sponsors for Trump's Freedom250 celebration, kicking off on May 17 with an event the administration calls "a revival", and "rededicating America to God".

Some of the main forces sponsoring this event alongside Deloitte are the Heritage Foundation, of Project 2025 notoriety, far-right Christian Hillsdale College, Museum of the Bible and Religious Broadcasters Association to name a few.

If you're still not sure this event will have a Christian Nationalist flavor, some of the speakers are:

These are just a few of the overt extremists involved in putting on this event aimed at presenting a merging of the government with a violent, xenophobic and misogynistic brand of religion.

As part of its $15 million bailout for Southern Oregon University, the Oregon legislature required SOU to spend $500,000 on a budget reduction plan from Deloitte.

This plan was not approved last friday at a special board meeting, but trustees noted that Deloitte's plan would be "foundational" for their new plan, one they have six weeks to complete.

But should SOU trust Deloitte?

This is the same firm that got caught citing fake, AI-generated research in a multi-million dollar consultation with a Canadian government agency.

How can Oregonians put up with the recommendations made by a firm donating to put grifters and bigots on a national stage representing our country?

Tired of SOU no-math posts

There's been a large influx of posters who want to "organize to Save SoU" by protesting and pumping their fists in the air.

That's great, please bring an actual plan with real math numbers that add up to putting the budget in the black.

SOU is insolvent. There isn't a way of arguing or protesting that can change this. This isn't your trustafarian family where you can bitch enough and more money appears. SOU will stop being able to cut paychecks soon at which point facility staff and teachers will leave and the school will be done.

Please bring a real plan, rather than bitch and moan at those who are working REAL plans with REAL math.

Library Update

Recently, the budget committee of the Jackson County Library District approved sending the proposed budget to the library board for a vote. Within this budget proposal, they are looking to reduce library operating hours and reduce staffing hours. What is frustrating with this is that the administrative team that worked to put the budget together make over $100k a year, when the average library staff member makes closer to $20-$50k a year. These proposed cuts also come as the newly formed union for eligible library staff is bargaining, and it feels incredibly disingenuous while we work on a first contract. If you are invested in our public entities being fiscally responsible, you need to recognize that the library budget has been slowly building a deficit for over 5 years, and they choose to act now.

Please show your support for the library workers. They have been struggling for months, and now the admin and board are going to add a nail into the coffin.

POC kids?

I’m contemplating moving to Ashland from Arizona. I’d like my son to go to an alternative school, Waldorf, nature based, or project based learning Sudbury / Free school style. When I look at the schools websites I see no kids or teachers of color. I realize that the Black population is very small, but are the kids and teachers non existent? Or do they just go to/ teach in public schools?

Demonstration Today (critical mass??)

Hello all, today is another meeting about SOUs future at the Hannon library. Students are planning a protest choir, if you would like to show support for the vibrant arts at SOU and in the Rogue Valley, they would be grateful for your attendance and support. The students have been so grateful to your response this week. There are rumors circulating of potential businesses closing to attend in solidarity. I know we are all both busy and exhausted, locally, at a state level, globally, financially, everything is so heavy. But I also think humans getting together and creating music from nothing can be one of the most grounding and healing activities out there. I hope you will consider attending.

Hi everyone, SOU's current situation is a surprise to no one. Please help spread the word about this town hall, and share the flyer. We want to see anyone and everyone there to help start this conversation and imagine a future that is not reliant on the Deloitte plan.

The goal is to start building a base of support for SOU and to start asking what we as a community want SOU to be.

Social Group for Neurodivergent Adults

Hi!!!
I’m the admin of the Southern Oregon Neurodivergent Social Group (primarily a discord group, but those who don’t have one I can DM you with info) I’m amping up and sending out a blast for our discord server!!!

- I will post links to join the server. If any of them are “dead links” please lmk and I will send you a new one. -

The purpose of this social group is to create a safe space for neurodivergent folks of the valley. A group where you don’t have to mask, simply be yourself and know that we’re all here to support each other.

It can be extremely difficult to make friends as an adult in general. Being neurodiverse makes it even harder. Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome, safe, and comfortable.

As the only admin I can only be at one place at a time, although I’d love to make it to all of our events!

I’m looking for anyone interested in hosting: showing up to an event and representing the group. We have new events popping up multiple times a week!

We have a weekly movie night on Fridays, a variety of activities that are free or $ on Saturdays, AND a round table to be involved with planning, brainstorming, or socializing/bringing a craft.

My vision (would also love your feedback and ideas!!!) is this:

Part of my role would be something like a “friendship facilitator”, someone to ease introductions. I’m an extrovert and feel comfortable initiating conversations.

Free/inexpensive activities- Cafes, open mic, walks at a park, nature journaling, Zoom calls, body doubling at the library, silent socials, photography walks, etc.

Activities that cost money - bowling, movies, lunch, day trips, events like comedy nights, concerts, etc.

I don’t discriminate against anyone who isn’t officially diagnosed with any condition related to being neurodiverse. It is meant to be for anyone who identifies as neurodivergent.

I hope you consider joining us, and I look forward to seeing members at our upcoming events!!!

If you’re not comfortable commenting, please feel free to DM me and I’ll chat with you soon!

P.S. Thank you to one of our members who has been collaborating with me to make the discord group’s icon 🙏🏻

Seems like a lot of political pundits and candidates this election cycle are posting AI attack vids, after the attention paid to both Trump’s AI offerings and the Iran “Lego videos”. This one attacking our congressperson, Cliff Bentz is brutal - and imo well deserved. Moar please!

Is there anybody who has run the Ashland Hill Climb previously that could describe the terrain of the race so a newcomer like myself can have an idea what I'm going to be dealing with.
