Library Update

Recently, the budget committee of the Jackson County Library District approved sending the proposed budget to the library board for a vote. Within this budget proposal, they are looking to reduce library operating hours and reduce staffing hours. What is frustrating with this is that the administrative team that worked to put the budget together make over $100k a year, when the average library staff member makes closer to $20-$50k a year. These proposed cuts also come as the newly formed union for eligible library staff is bargaining, and it feels incredibly disingenuous while we work on a first contract. If you are invested in our public entities being fiscally responsible, you need to recognize that the library budget has been slowly building a deficit for over 5 years, and they choose to act now.

Please show your support for the library workers. They have been struggling for months, and now the admin and board are going to add a nail into the coffin.
