Experiences running at night?

Before you scream "but homeless vagrants and gang members!!!!", I am from Los Angeles and honestly our homeless/gang problem isn't even a fraction as bad as it is there. Not here to argue objective truths, just want other actual experiences from runners or general creatures of the night.

What has been your experience with night running/walking? Are the trails in One Mile and lower Bidwell lit adequately? I have a headlamp and a high-viz lighted vest but I personally have poor night vision. My runs will range from 7-13 miles until August and then all the way up to the full 26 over fall and winter into spring.

I have literally no other choice except to do my long runs after dark because of the heat, and also try and do all my short runs at the gym even though I feel like a hamster on a wheel. Due to my schedule (night shift worker), I will be starting my runs in the dark even if I stay up to run in the early morning, but I honestly prefer to get them out of the way as quickly as possible.

Again, before you jump in and try to convince me against this, you try running 10 miles on a treadmill and get back to me on how well that goes. Yes, I have pepper spray, emergency location services on my running watch, and I vary the times I go out so I'm not predictable.

Getting "fired" from insufferable patient

Oh no! I set a boundary stating I would not be talked down to, spoken over, or verbally threatened and Mister Man Baby did not appreciate me not allowing him to steamroll me so he asked the nurse to fire me!

I already told my charge that I will not be taking him back tomorrow but I guess he made extra sure of that, so I don't need to deal with him the rest of tonight either. Nicest thing he's done for me in the whole time I've had him.

Don't you all love micromanaging patients that think you're just an incompetent idiot that doesn't know how to do your job so they very graciously give you step by step instructions and then get irate if you attempt to actually engage in care, refusing all intervention? I sure do! My years of experience obviously mean nothing because he is much better informed than anyone helping him.

(For context, he is like this with everyone, including doctors. I have no idea why he is even still here as he is refusing all treatment and care aside from demanding help to the commode and then refusing to get off)

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Night running preparation?

I am a night shift worker that lives in an extremely hot and arid climate. Currently I am training for a half-marathon block in order to shift to marathon training in fall, something I've done quite a few times before. When I worked days, I would simply wake up at 4am and prep for my long run before heading out and getting it done first thing. However, because of my schedule now, I'll have to shift to going out at 4am, which is essentially the end of the day for me.

I just wondered if anyone else has done this sort of training setup and any suggestions they may have? I already have all the gear I need for night running, I am just worried about how to eat beforehand (my stomach is extremely sensitive and I try not to eat anything super heavy before runs) and whether running through the sunrise will mess up my sleep once I'm home, especially as I usually need an hour or so to wind down after I run.

Any other vampire runners with insight? I've done night running before but not quite like this or with these distances (longest I've run at night is 10km). Also if it matters, I am a woman and yes I have pepper spray lol.

Okay, hear me out.

When it comes to running leggings, Halara doesn't deserve all the hate it gets for its price point. I absolutely understand the issues with it being a fast fashion brand as well as some customers with return/customer service issues, but man their leggings are some of the best I've worn, and their yoga jackets are on par with LLL style wise.

This is coming from a very athletic person, I basically live in my workout clothes when I'm not at work. I have tried so, SO many athletic wear brands so I feel like I have a wide range of reference, from cheap brands like CRZ and Baleaf all the way to LLL. Before the many suggestions that will inevitably roll in, imho Old Navy has ridiculously bad quality control and sizing, and Target is hit or miss in the same way.

While I love my LLL bras, the leggings definitely left a lot to be desired and honestly I feel like I wasted $100+ on leggings that don't even stay up properly (and I made sure to follow the size chart) and honestly felt quite thin and cheap.

Back to my original point - Halara leggings are the only leggings I own that stay stuck to me like glue, pass the squat and sweat tests, and don't pill or lose shape even after a million washes (I am a long distance runner so they get a LOT of use). On top of that, I can buy 3 pairs of Halara leggings for the price of 1 pair of LLL leggings. CRZ is a close second but I feel like only Halara has the appropriate thickness and shape retention, CRZ fit super well but feel a little thin.

For bras, SheFit and LLL all the way. But leggings? Give Halara a chance, you may be surprised.

Any other people with unpopular activewear opinions?

Disclaimer: I am a lean lady, so those of you with more love to go around may have a different experience than I had. This is just my personal opinion, and wanted to share my experience with those looking for affordable and functional workout leggings.

ETA: I did say it was an unpopular opinion, I am no influencer or staff member of any clothing brand. I waste all my own money on these items and they are my personal opinions (:

I am a new driver, just bought my very first car after saving up forever. Got myself a 2018 Model 3 RWD for 22k altogether after learning to drive on my husband's 2020 Model 3 because I just loved how safe it felt and how maneuverable it is.

However, most people I tell that I bought a Tesla immediately go sour faced and make up some reason as to why it was a bad purchase and I really don't get it. Some people claim it's the FSD that makes it bad because it isn't always the best at driving itself but I don't even have FSD on my car (Hubby does on his but I've never used it, only ever driven it by myself as the driver).

Some people don't have any other reason except "they are shitty cars" which is never elaborated on. Sure they may be expensive to repair, but it definitely doesn't seem like a shitty car to me. But what do I know as a first time car owner?

Is it really just Musk hate? Hating the person who helped something get developed is different than hating the product itself. Maybe jealousy? Especially with gas prices the way they are, I am so happy I made the purchase I did when I did and have zero regrets. I worked hard to afford it and it's still in amazing shape.

Just wanted some insight from other Tesla drivers, wondering if you face the same disdain from gas car drivers.

Pic is Sakura, my new lovely ride 🌸

Hey!

I am an athletic but lean lady (5'6", 34.5/24-26/34.5) and I have been struggling to find leggings that are snug both at my waist and still compressive on my legs. I am a long distance runner and it is extremely annoying to constantly need to pull my leggings up because they gape a little at my waist while fitting perfectly everywhere else.

I have muscular legs from running but have a very lean and flat stomach and tight waist from weight loss and a tummy tuck, which seems to make all my pants (not just leggings) fit weird due to my meaty calves and quads.

I've tried everything from Target to Halara to Crz, even Lululemon. Funnily enough had the best luck from Halara despite it being a fast fashion brand, but I just wanted to ask if there are other thick legged ladies out there with recommendations for leggings that actually stay snug at the waist without choking your legs out!

Please no brands like Alo (not a fan of their quality control). Would be willing to try something pricey if it can last through lots of beating up as I am doing half marathon training right now, to be followed by marathon training this fall.

Tl;dr skinny waist thicc legs need run leggings what do
