Nobody in our house had time to clean daily, and I had a motion sensor yelling at me from a drawer. Cheap guilt science to the rescue

Our house wasn’t dirty dirty, it was that annoying “everyone is busy so the crumbs win by Thursday” kind of dirty. Two jobs, one kid, one shedding animal, and somehow the kitchen floor becomes a timeline of the week. I found an old motion sensor in a drawer and made a dumb little Home Assistant rule: if the kitchen has had traffic after dinner and the dishwasher has run, the robot vacuum does a quiet kitchen plus entryway pass. If someone is still moving around, it waits. If it already ran, it shuts up. It does not magically replace cleaning, but it does keep up with the house when no one has time to clean daily, which is the part I actually needed.

Also added a filter reminder because I do not want fine dust and pet hair getting blown around like indoor weather. Is this overbuilt? obviously. Did it stop the Thursday crumb depression? weirdly yes.

Tried 3 wearable pumps back-to-back after returning to work — here's what actually happened (spoiler: none of them are perfect)

Can we talk about pumping at work for a second? Because I am genuinely losing it.

The Slack scheduling wars over the wellness room. The paranoia about leaking on a client call. Washing a million tiny parts at midnight when you're already running on four hours of sleep. I spent most of my return-to-work transition hiding in supply closets and obsessing over my output, and honestly? It broke me a little.

So I did what any sleep-deprived, slightly unhinged new mom does — I bought three different wearables trying to fix the anxiety. Here's what actually happened.

The "I need to look like a normal human at work" option — Elvie 2 Sleekest, most discreet, genuinely disappears under a fitted top. If your office is formal or you're in client-facing meetings all day, this is your best shot at invisibility. The downside: it never fully emptied me, and the boiling-to-sanitize situation is a hard no when you're already functioning at 40% capacity.

The "I cannot spend more money on this" option — Momcozy M9 Easiest to clean of the three, which matters more than I expected. The problem was consistency — some sessions were great, others were a total mystery, and that unpredictability sent my supply anxiety through the roof. If your supply is solid and you're not a worrier, this is probably fine. If you're already anxious about output, maybe not.

The "I have back-to-back meetings and no margin for error" option — eufy S1 Pro Bulkier, more parts, definitely needs a loose blazer to hide. But it was the most reliable for output — even during long, stressful calls. The warming feature genuinely helped my letdown in meetings, and it saved me during a clogged duct situation I don't want to relive. Adjusting settings from the app under the table without anyone noticing felt like a small superpower.

None of them are perfect. They're all trade-offs depending on what that particular day demands. I'm still not fully convinced any of this is a game changer vs. just a different thing to stress about.

For those of you navigating this — what are your actual hacks for the scheduling and logistics side? Would love to know what's actually working for people. 💀

Looking for the softest fleece throw blanket

I'm slowly redecorating my living room, and now I’m stuck on what should be the easiest part: finding a good fleece throw blanket for the couch. I want something that actually feels cozy when I’m watching TV at night, but still looks nice folded over the sofa. I’ve bought throws before that looked great in photos, but after a few washes they either got rough, started shedding, or just didn’t feel warm enough.

Ideally, I’m looking for one that’s soft but not too heavy, warm enough for winter evenings, but not so thick that it feels uncomfortable during the warmer months. It also needs to hold up to regular washing because we have pets and kids, so it’s definitely going to be used a lot.

Has anyone found a fleece throw blanket that still stays soft after washing and also looks good in a living room? I’d love something practical, durable, and cozy without looking too plain.

Vaccuming every day, but the floors still don’t stay clean—why is this happening?

I’m starting to get really frustrated. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been vacuuming my hardwood floors daily. You’d think with that kind of routine, they’d stay spotless, right? Well, no. The moment I finish vacuuming, my floors look great, but after a few hours, I’m noticing the dust and debris creeping back in. It’s almost like I didn’t even clean at all.

I’ve tried everything from sweeping beforehand to using different kinds of vacuums, and it’s still the same. Dust seems to reappear no matter what I do. The thing that’s really getting to me is how quickly it happens. The floors look fine, but they don’t feel clean. It’s like I’m stuck in this cleaning cycle that never ends, and it’s becoming so exhausting.

I mean, what’s the point of doing all this if my floors still feel dirty a few hours later? Is this just the nature of hardwood floors, or am I missing something in my cleaning routine?

Does anyone have a solution or a method to make them stay clean longer? I really don’t have the energy to clean every day, but I also don’t want to live in a dusty house. Help?

if you suffer from allergies, what should you look for in a robot vacuum to really make a difference

living in an allergy-prone home means every cleaning decision counts. I’ve been looking into robot vacuums to help with regular cleaning, but I’m not sure which features are actually useful for someone with allergy issues. I know that vacuuming is crucial for reducing dust and allergens, but I’m wondering if there’s something specific in robot vacuums that would really help with pet dander, dust mites, and other common allergy triggers.

Should I prioritize things like HEPA filters, strong suction, or maybe a self-cleaning brush system to avoid allergens from recirculating? If anyone here with allergies has tried a specific model or feature that really made a difference, I’d love to hear your experience.

I’ve read that some robot vacuums claim to offer 99% bacteria removal and 95% dust mite reduction, which sounds impressive. But is that something that actually makes a noticeable difference in the long run? I need something that can handle daily maintenance without having to clean the filter every time. The vacuum would ideally be able to run on hardwood, tile, and carpets without missing spots and effectively reduce allergens that might affect my family’s health.

what's the best way to disinfect floors safely in a home with pets?

Keeping the floors clean in a house with dogs and cats can be challenging, especially because they’re constantly sniffing and licking the floors. Traditional disinfectants are often filled with harsh chemicals that I don’t want my pets exposed to. After doing some research, I’ve come across electrolyzed water as a more natural, safer alternative, claiming to remove 99% of bacteria and 95% of dust mites. It sounds like a great option, but I’m concerned about how safe it really is for my furry friends. Does it truly disinfect the floors effectively without leaving behind harmful residues? I’m also wondering if it helps with removing odors or just dirt.

I’ve tried a few different disinfectants in the past, but none of them seem completely safe for pets. I’d love to hear from other pet owners who’ve used electrolyzed water. Does it make a noticeable difference in terms of cleanliness and safety for your pets? Any advice on what works best for homes with both dogs and cats would be really helpful.

Does anyone else completely sacrifice their cars resale value for their dogs happiness

i love my golden to death but tbh every time we go to the lake he decides he needs to roll in the absolute grossest stagnant mud puddle he can find before jumping straight into the back seat while shaking off. I used to care so much about keeping my interior pristine but lately Ive just given up trying to vacuum the wet dirt and fur out of the carpet fibers... its honestly exhausting spending two hours every sunday with a shop vac and it makes me not want to take him out on trails which makes me feel incredibly guilty as a dog parent. I keep seeing ads for those custom fit interior protectors designed for people with pets but they all look like they either slide around constantly on the fabric or his claws will just rip right through the cheap synthetic material in a week.

kinda curious if anyone here has found a heavy duty setup that actually survives wet paws and sharp claws without looking like a literal garbage bag thrown on the floor. idk maybe I just need to accept that my car is a rolling kennel now but surely theres a way to protect the floor underneath all the chaos?

anyone else have a closet full of clothes but still feel like they have nothing to wear, how do you actually keep track of what you own

this is my problem for years and i can't find a solution. I have a decent wardrobe, not a huge one, but enough that I should be able to pull together good outfits without much fuss. the problem is I forget what I have. something gets shoved behind the rail and I just stop thinking about it. months later i find things with the tags still attached.

i've tried doing those capsule wardrobe challenges where you lay everything out and photograph it but i never maintain the system. i've tried notes apps, pinterest boards, even a spreadsheet once which lasted about a week.

what actually works for tracking your wardrobe digitally without it being a whole project? Are there any apps/systems that actually get people to stick to them long term?

My detailer friend says buying interior accessories with damage guarantees is a complete scam?

We got into a massive argument yesterday because I was about to drop serious money on premium interior protection from one of those big name brands and he basically laughed in my face claiming the fine print makes their promises impossible to actually use. He argued that finding companies that offer legitimate forever replacements on their products is pointless because they just write off heel wear or chemical damage as normal tear anyway so you never get the new set approved when you actually need it.

I kind of get his point because how do you even prove the plastic warped from heat and not abuse, but at the same time I plan on keeping this truck for a decade and want some peace of mind knowing I won't have to buy these things three times over.

Have any of you guys actually successfully filed a claim when your heavy boots wore a literal hole through the driver side shield or is he right that these companies are just charging a premium for a promise they will never legally have to keep. kinda feels like insurance where you pay to feel safe but get screwed when you actually need help.

Warning: Don't let the dealer add the interior protection package

almost walked out of the finance office yesterday because they tried to sneak in a 400 dollar protection package at the very last second that was literally just cheap flat rubber squares thrown in the back trunk. do not let them roll this into your financing guys you will literally be paying interest on cheap rubber for 60 months which is insane. tell them to take it off the invoice immediately and just buy the highest quality custom fit protective layers aftermarket on your own time when you get home. I flat out refused their add ons and watched the finance guy get visibly annoyed and now im just trying to figure out which aftermarket options actually fit the factory retention clips properly without sliding under the pedals causing a safety hazard.

im seeing a lot of generic ones online but honestly saving 20 bucks isnt worth a stuck accelerator pedal on the highway. just a heads up to watch the itemized out the door sheet closely because they get really sneaky with these mandatory protection packages and make you feel like you cant say no when you are tired after 4 hours of sitting at a desk

Southern Cross dental add on , worth it or just pay overseas?

Hey. Rare poster. Please don't roast me lol.

I am an Indian expat in Wellington. Work offers Southern Cross. I can add dental for like 30amonth.So30amonth.So360 a year or something.

I need a crown. Maybe a small filling too. Nothing major. Local quote was ouch. Been looking at dental tourism stuff. Reading reviews for places. Honestly not sure. I did go to Vickong Dental in Zhuhai once. Just a clean. Nothing special. Anyway now I am back in New Zealand. Trying to work out if this insurance is even worth it. Payouts seem low. Waiting period thing as well.

Has anyone actually claimed on Southern Cross dental? Or am I better off just saving the $360 and paying overseas if I need to? Thanks. Be nice please.

iwtl how do I create a truly quiet sleep environment?

I’ve been living in an apartment for a few months now, and while I love the convenience, the constant noise from neighbors and traffic makes it nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep. I’ve tried earplugs and a few white noise apps, but nothing seems to block out the noise effectively enough, especially with the loud music or conversations from the neighboring units.

Now I’m considering sleep earbuds or ANC sleep headphones to improve the situation, and I’m wondering if these options might be more effective than room fixes like window inserts or heavy curtains. Has anyone tried sleep earbuds or ANC headphones? Do they work better than trying to soundproof your room? I’m curious if this kind of solution offers more consistent relief from noise than traditional fixes.

I’m also interested in any methods that help mask the noise without adding more sound to the room. Sometimes white noise apps seem to add to the overall noise and make it harder to relax. If anyone has experience with using these types of earbuds or other similar products that help mask noise while still letting you stay aware of your surroundings, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Petite woman looking for gaming chair suggestions (kinda desperately)

Anyone here around 5ft or under who’s actually found a gaming chair that fits comfortably long term?

Most chairs I’ve tried feel way too oversized for my frame ,seat depth too long etc. my back has been hurting lately from sitting for long hours too, so I’m trying to find something that actually supports smaller frames properly. I used the MUSSO E80 Muse before moving abroad and it was one of the few chairs that felt decent for long gaming/work sessions.

if anyone has recommendations or long-term experiences with chairs that actually work well for petite users , I'd really appreciate it
