a 16 year old’s top four. any assumptions? recommendations?

a 16 year old’s top four. any assumptions? recommendations?

i would appreciate recommendations specifically in the horror-fantasy genre, as that’s the genre of my central creative project

other movies i enjoy not listed in my top four: THE FLY, PERFECT BLUE, SPIRITED AWAY, THE DARK CRYSTAL, MARTYRS (2008)

i was once obsessed with aronofsky’s filmography, but his recent choices have inspired me to withdraw from his work

Foreign languages & consistency

My script includes several instances of dialogue in a non-English language. Up until now, I have followed this rule:

If there are characters in the scene that would not understand the language, or the dialogue is frivolous, I write it phonetically.

If the only characters in the scene speak the language, I use a parenthetical. EX: (in Russian)

The implication being, the parenthetical demands subtitles while the phonetic dialogue does not.

I am, however, worried that this decision will negatively affect the readability of my script. How do you handle foreign languages in your script? Do you treat non-English dialogue the same, regardless of whether or not it’s necessary to understand? If not, how do you format it?

EDIT: by “write phonetically”, I meant romanize. Thank you, u/Positive_Leading_371

would love to see fellow artists’ interpretations!

i typically draw myself as an abstract cone creature… but a cone creature couldn’t pull off a look like this!

what genre would you associate with my style?

i am back again with my most recent work! since this community decided i haven’t quite achieved a gothic style, i’m curious about the subculture, genre, or even time period that it does bring to mind

i’m going for a gritty, true-to-life (not realistic, per se, just earnest in life’s ugliness) style with a playful flare of fantasy. think fear & hunger meets wakfu!

edit: for the sake of avoiding repetitive comments, i understand my art work is not inherently gothic in subject matter. a lot of times, though, art styles fall into subgenres based on appearance alone. think of “gothic” as the impression i am trying to achieve

if you don’t think i’ve achieved said gothic impression, i’d love advice on how to incorporate its feel into my art style
