Thoughts after depositing cash via Canada Post for the first time

I was apprehensive at first but now that I’ve gone through it, it’s so freaking smooth.

I got there, scanned the code, gave my ID, gave my cash, done.

And it seems like the instructions that the staff receives after scanning the code is super simple too. They had never gone through this and yet there was no issue in their side.

HUGE kudos to the team that came up with this idea. Can every bank do this? It just makes so much sense.

Though I also wonder how Canada Post profits from this. Anyway, standing ovation for Wealthsimple. Amazing feature.

Joined the club with a Clara BW!

It’s my first e-reader and I love that I can borrow ebooks from my local library. Such a killer feature! I love how light it is. I’ll be using this a ton on my Skytrain trips to and from work. I also can’t wait to bike around Vancouver’s beaches this summer and bringing this along to read while I take a break. Super pumped!

Switched from Surface Laptop to a MacBook Pro M5. Absolutely loving it.

Got these two devices for free from my Canadian bank so that definitely helped the transition. Absolutely loving the MBP hardware and software experience.

TIL Kobo the ebook, audiobooks, and e-reader company started in Canada and its HQ is in Toronto

I recently wanted to buy a book and I didn’t want to buy from Amazon. Searching on Indigo, I saw options for ebooks and that led me to Kobo. I saw they have really well-reviewed e-readers and a full blown ebook system just like kindle. First, I never thought there was a viable alternative to Kindle, and second I was surprised to see it’s Canadian.

More research shows they were acquired by a Japanese company called Rakuten, but they still largely operate in Canada with an HQ in Toronto.

Whatever the case, it’s nice to see non-US alternatives for ebooks. I ended up buying an ebook from Kobo and I use their iPhone app for now. Planning to buy a Kobo Clara BW e-reader next, and I’ll take that on my next vacation (which won’t be in the U.S.).
