The first time I had this, several years ago, I was sorely disappointed. Perhaps I couldn't get the cheese/dairy + ramen-preconception out of my head OR I had it without toppings. Now people really seem to enjoy carbonara instant ramen so I thought I wouldn't give it another go this time with toppings. The egg and schnitzel made a huge difference IMO and I am now glad to say that I am fully onboard with carbonara ramen HOWEVER I now think the Buldak hot chicken flavour kind of lets the whole experience down (I love classic buldak dw). Anyone out there that can recommend a solid alternative carbonara that might be the one?

Seems to be a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it so far with a 25% approval rating on Nock-a-Noodle:

Discovered my local shop stocks Glads: a Ukrainian brand of instant noodles. I've had the pho bo (beef) and the tom yum, both were excellent, especially the tom yum. Anyway, this time it was time for the chicken flavour and it did not disappoint. Really nice aromatic broth, quite a small portion size so I added quite a few toppings (clearly not the most authentic toppings but it worked!). My main issue was probably the rice noodles being quite soft when following the instructions and of course portion size was modest.

It was the export version of this:

Great stuff but Acecook still make the best instant pho, especially the beef IMO

Toppings:

  • Fried broccoli
  • Boiled egg
  • Home-pickled beetroot
  • Sauerkraut
  • Fried soy protein
  • Topped with Kewpie mayo, sesame seeds, gochugaru chilli, and sesame oil for the broccoli

Anyone tried these? Got any recommendations for other pho brands I should try?

Had these for lunch and they were great but only due to the virtue of being very similar to original Buldak hot chicken. A little zest from the lime but not getting a whole lot of habanero. Adequately spicy, but I think I've gotten a bit sensitised to Buldak since not having had them for several months haha
