Hey all. I've been lurking for a while, trying to figure out whether to try the XReal One Pro. My use case is coding and productivity, mostly in a coworking space, where I've been heaving a 24" monitor every day for two years. Since there's a 30 day return window on Amazon I decided to give them a try, and thought I'd write up my (very positive) experience for anyone in the same boat.

  • The clarity of the picture is far above what I was expecting (FWIW I don't wear glasses). Edges are crisp, text is sharp, and brightness is uniform across the display - much better than my previous Quest 3. This is really hard to capture on YouTube videos, and suspect it may vary from user to user. I think the only solution is to try it for yourself.
  • The glasses "just worked" immediately after plugging in to my Mac and Chromebook, and the menu system is well designed for setting screen size etc.
  • I've just done 8 hours of work in them, and prefer them to my laptop monitor, both for the super widescreen options, improved neck posture of being able to look straight ahead, and option to work from an armchair. My eyes weren't tired at the end and I didn't need breaks.
  • For some applications a huge external monitor may win for resolution, but (as someone with ADHD tendencies) I've found being able to dim the background improved my concentration and focus. Most of my code-writing has moved to agents these days and those don't require huge screen real estate.
  • Being able to carry the equivalent of a huge widescreen monitor in your pocket to a cafe, coworking space, back patio, on vacation, on the plane, etc is just really cool.

A few tips:

  • Make sure you get the correct size, and measure your IPD with a ruler in the mirror to check what that is. At 71mm I needed the large size.
  • You can set the angle of the arms and change the nose pieces to fit your face too.
  • There's a helpful menu toggle to undim the glasses when you look away from an anchored screen.
  • Text generally looks more stable against a white background, so I mostly used light mode in my apps.
  • This video has some good tips, including buying an Oakley Jawbreaker nosepiece, which (apart from being more comfortable) also seems to improve clarity and field of view a little.

Two thumbs up from me! Happy to answer any questions.

Hi all. I'm currently riding a 2018 Zero DSR mostly as a commuter in San Francisco, and it's great for ducking in and out of traffic, lane splitting, etc. I've no desire for more power, but at 6'4 (long torso) I do crave a little more cockpit space, and am curious about doing some light touring with access to fast chargers.

I've looked at a 2023 Zero DSR/X which solves both problems, but not sure I want an extra ~200lb on my city commuter. Any thoughts on whether the weight reduces fun or manoeuvrability? Would I be better off looking at e.g. an SR/F?

Appreciate any thoughts.
