[OC] NFL players that were traded for a first round pick(s) or equivalent to that in the salary cap era and how they performed for the new team
I tried to put this list in a comment section on a thread about Lawrence-trade, but it was too long to submit. Anyway, based on the comments by others and some research here is a list of players that where traded for a first round pick or an equivalent (multiple lower picks including a higher second rounder or a second and a good player) sorted by position and how they played for the new team in the salary cap era:
QBs
- Rodgers to Jets, (a conditonal first rounder turned into second rounder) injury and a bad trade
- R. Wilson to Broncos, 2 below average seasons, quickly cut
- Watson to Browns, injuries and terrible play
- Stafford to Rams, a MVP season, team won the title in another season, good play for 5 seasons, still going
- Darnold to Panthers, 18 games in 2 seasons
- Wentz to Colts, played 1 season for them, some bad plays, a bad trade
- Bradford to Vikings, 1 ok season and 1 injury
- Alex Smith to Chiefs, 5 average seasons, good team
- Palmer to Raiders, 2 average seasons, 25 games
- Kolb to Cardinals, 15 below average games, a bad trade
- Bledsoe to Bills, 3 average seasons
- Mirer to Bears, 1 bad season
- George to Falcons, 2 average seasons on an average team
- Montana to Chiefs, good play for 2 seasons, Pro Bowl-level
OTs
- Tunsil to Texans, Pro Bowl-level, but no All Pros in 6 seasons, team had very bad and good seasons

- McCaffrey to 49ers, lifted the offense to new heights, OPOY-level and injuries in 3.5 seasons
- T. Richardson to Colts, was on a cheap rookie contract, a bust
- Ricky Williams to Dolphins, 1 All Pro in 7 seasons, average team
- M. Faulk to Rams, MVP-level in 3/7 seasons, Super Bowl
EDs
- Parsons to Packers, TBD
- M. Sweat to Bears, ok play, not elite in 2.5 seasons
- Von Miller to Rams, half a season of good play, a Super Bowl run
- Chubb to Dolphins, 2.5 seasons for 22 sacks, injured, average team
- K. Mack to Bears, 1 DPOY-level, 2 more good seasons, total 4 seasons, average team
- F. Clark to Chiefs, Pro Bowl-level in 4 seasons, total only 23.5 sacks
- Chandler Jones to Cardinals, many sacks, 2/6 All Pro seasons, bad team
- Jared Allen to Vikings, All Pro play, HOF

- Jamal Adams to Seahawks, played badly, a terrible trade
- M. Fitzpatrick to Steelers, was on a rookie contract, All Pro in 3/6 seasons, team of 9-10 wins
- Ramsey to Rams, All Pro in 2/4 seasons, traded away, 1 Super Bowl
- Revis to Bucs, only 1 ok season, a bad trade
- Bailey to Broncos, 10 seasons, HOF
honorable mentions:
TE Gonzalez traded to Falcons for pick #50, LB R. Smith to Ravens for pick #53, great trades for acquiring teams.
Blockbuster trades for the quarterbacks were mostly bad, while other players were kind of 50/50. Some went for multiple picks, e.g. Tunsil, hard to justify. Some played well for multiple seasons, but team had no success, e.g. Buckner. The best value out of these trades probably got the Rams.
