Love to see this sub growing, even with the introduction of a "rival" WB sub (though siblings sub is more accurate). Just shows that this little network still has plenty of fans from back in the day!

Thanks for stopping by, and keep watching the frog!

Wednesday Nights on The WB

So, up until about the fall of 1998, Wednesday nights seemed to be a popular destination for The WB's comedy programming. However, as its reliance on scripted dramas grew, it became another night for those shows. Which did you prefer?

Did You Know? The WB Network Originally Picked The Late George Wendt to be Steve's Co- Star Before the idea was pitched.

George Wendt was initially cast as Steve’s best friend on The Steve Harvey Show. However, Steve Harvey strongly pushed for Cedric the Entertainer to take the role instead. At the time, The WB Television Network was hesitant, since Cedric wasn’t widely known and wasn’t on their radar. They also felt his audition was bad.

Harvey made it clear he was prepared to walk away from the sitcom if Cedric wasn’t cast as his co-star, a move that reportedly frustrated the network. Eventually, The WB agreed to try Cedric for the first 6 episodes of The Show.

Did You Know? 📺✨

The Steve Harvey Show ended after six successful seasons—not because of low ratings, but because Steve Harvey himself decided to move on and pursue other opportunities.

Interestingly, The WB Television Network was reportedly interested in continuing the series, but Harvey chose to wrap things up while the show was still going strong.

Jamie King’s Last Name

I’ve been wondering this for years and I’m hopeful I can get an answer lol. Where did Jamie’s last name, King, come from? IIRC his Aunt’s last name was King through marriage to her husband, and Jamie’s uncle, Junior King. Jamie’s Aunt Helen was his Mom’s Sister. If that was the case, how was Jamie’s last name King? That never made sense to me.

It's Monday night on The WB. What are you watching?

I know I left out a ton of stuff, but hopefully this is a decent sample size!

Have you ever watched Smart Guy? 📺

I used to love this show growing up—it starred Tahj Mowry as the lovable child genius T.J. Henderson. The series followed his life as he skipped several grades and navigated high school at just 10 years old, leading to plenty of funny and heartfelt moments with his family and friends.

The cast really made the show special, including John Marshall Jones as his widowed father Floyd Henderson, Jason Weaver as his older brother Marcus, Essence Atkins as his stylish sister Yvette, and Omar Gooding as his best friend Mo.

What’s your un-Popular opinion?

- It was like a cartoon come to life. So absurd. Every episode was insane with cutaway gags and dream sequences. Not everyone’s taste but perfectly mine. Satire. Drama. Romance.

- Tammy Lynn’s hair is a work of art and every day I bless the gods for it being on my screen.

- Everyone nailed their characters. April Tuna, Mary Cherry, Nicole Julian, and Miss Glass all deserved awards in their own right.

- Harrison was very repressed queer coded whiny nice guy. I did want him to end up with Brooke though but I feel a boyfriend would’ve made him more interesting. I could not care less about him getting sick.

- The ensemble cast was what made and also break the show. I think it takes a specific viewer to be able to sit through so much going on at once. Especially with so many blondes.

- George was poorly written and his introduction into the show was clear that he was just a diversity hire. I liked the actor and his relationship with Sam though.

- Brooke being the most popular girl at school and confessing she also has questioned her sexuality after two of the other female characters did! For the time this was groundbreaking. However, with the direction of the show it was very clearly this show was TOO GAY for 2001.

- So many characters were dropped. Poppita Fresh who obviously got pregnant IRL which was very clearly the first iteration of Santana Lopez. Principal Hall who just disappears! I loved her and her all knowing senses. Exquisite, Lady T, deserved more screen time but I can’t see how she’d add anything to the plot.

- I need all of Mary Cherry’s mink fur coats.

- I feel Emory Dick, Freddy Gong, and the Tuna’s are all awful representation of neurodivergent kids. Controversial but I love all their characters and portrayals. Adria absolutely kills it.

- The guest stars were packed.

- “BUT YOU ARE IN THAT CHAIR BROOKE! YA ARE!”

If you had to recast the smallville characters to people now who would play who? This has been the discussion of my night. Just wondering what everyone else thinks 🤔

So i am re-watching the show for the first time since it ended.

Only watched the first four episodes of season 1 so far, and while i did enjoy them, i don't enjoy it as much as i did when it originally aired, and i do remember i really enjoyed it, it does also in away feel like its the first time i am watching the show, as i have forgotten most things that happened in it, as its 25 years since i watched it last.

There really only 4-5 things i remember from the show when i watched it during its run.

Now i am not American and did not go to High School in the US during that time, so i have no idea how accurate it was to how high school in the US was at the time.

Do we agree that Sam’s beef with Brooke was mostly one sided?

Hey, my three other redditors!

Am I crazy or Sam wasn’t even on Brooke’s radar! She couldn’t care less about the girl. And so often Sam would fixate and put Brooke on a pedestal while also inserting herself into her life so she could blame her. Brooke would try to be the bigger person and Sam still wouldn’t let up.

I feel it was on purpose by Ryan as he’s trying yo he groundbreaking with his attempt at “pretty, blonde cheerleader who isn’t mean”. But, Sam “crashing” a party she was invited to and making a scene. Cancel my subscription I’m over your issues. Brooke just had her first conversation with her in class like a couple days ago.

I understand her affiliation with Nicole and she probably did rule with an iron fist at one point/ turns a blind eye, but Sam was usually always in the wrong when it came to those two. I still love Sam though. That hair and those eyebrows! Carly Pope murder me!

Do anyone remembers For Your Love?

I never watched this during its original run, I only caught it in syndication when I was younger. It would just come on randomly and I’d sit there and watch it, not even realizing what show it was at first.

Now that I’m older, it’s kinda crazy looking back and realizing it started on NBC and then moved to The WB and still kept going. That doesn’t really happen like that anymore.

And knowing it was created by Yvette Lee Bowser makes a lot of sense. The way the relationships were written felt real, not over the top, just everyday couples dealing with stuff.

It’s one of those shows I don’t really see people talk about much, but I remember it sticking with me from those reruns.

Did anybody else catch this on syndication back in the day?

Coldest lines?

I was just musing on each character’s most stone-cold line from the shows, and I thought I’d ask for some input! I’ve got some fromtrunners here already, but nothing for Angel, Anya or Spike. Also any suggestions for Angel’s crew are welcome!

Buffy - "Me."

Willow - "Bored now."

Xander - "I like the quiet."

Giles - "Would you like me to convince you?"

Cordelia - "Buffy’s just the runner up… *I’m* the queen."

Faith - "Step away from the glass."

Dawn - "You’re gonna wake up on fire."

EDIT, to add:

Angel - "Second best."

Anya - "You’re not better than us. You’re just luckier."

Joyce - "Actually, I was thinking that my daughter is going to kill you soon."

Doing this again: What CW shows would have been on The WB had it survived?

Let's face it: The CW was essentially The WB 2.0, so a lot of the shows that were on it in their early years would have been on The WB...right? Here are some of my picks:

The Arrowverse shows Gossip Girl Vampire Diaries The Charmed and Roswell reboots 90210 The Secret Circle iZombie Jane the Virgin Riverdale Nancy Drew Whose Line is it Anyway?

What do y'all think?
