I added over 50 real playtesters into my survival game’s lore

Every name written on these cabin walls belongs to a real playtester.

In MAZEBOUND, the lore is that people trapped in the maze leave their names behind so they won’t be forgotten after disappearing.

So I added over 50 actual community members directly into the game world itself as a tribute for helping shape the game before release.

Thalasophobia fans rejoice, all the Mazebound horrors are on land (but still terrifying)

For those of you who struggle with any body of water deeper than a bath, my wife and I have
been diligently working away at a survival horror extraction game and the last year+ of our
lives launches on the 13th. TL;DR you wake on a beach, no memory, no gear, and four
gates loom over you. Each one is an entrance into the maze, a challenging adventure best
played with friends, where you’ll need to harvest and extract materials to build a raft and
escape the island.

We’ve taken inspiration from our favourites in the genre, including Green Hell, The Forest,
Subnautica (yes yes, we’re terrified to be going up against the sequel but we were here first
so we’re sticking with the date) while trying to do our own thing.

We also have a speedrunning community who have, against all our expectations, become
rather brilliant at running the maze and escaping the island in staggeringly quick times. The
game isn’t even out and there are people better at it than us!

We’ll see you in the maze.

Hey guys, so I could really use some outside perspective on this one.

So I've been working on my survival game and decided on May 13th as the release date a while back. Nothing big was going to be released around this date (or so I thought), so I did the math, marketing preparation and all that, and started getting wishlists slowly… I’m at 15K wishlists now.

This morning, I woke up to the news (It was news to me, I found out late...) that a massive game (subnautica 2) is launching on the 14th. Same genre, too. This means that my game is about to get completely overshadowed.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do, and I'm a bit lost, honestly.

I know moving the release date is generally bad news… Steam's algorithm doesn't like it… You can lose visibility, and it messes with whatever marketing momentum you've already built. So what do I do? Should I just accept my fate?

I’d appreciate any insights.
