Essential Yacht Human Nature by Michael Jackson is back on the hot 100

It’s on at 29 due to the Michael Jackson biopic. It’s too bad most people don’t realize this is essentially a Toto song. I don’t follow the hot 100 much but when was the last time a yacht song charted?

We’re quickly approaching the Star Trek computer

Working with ChatGPT lately I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s almost to the level of sophistication of the computer on Star Trek TNG. I mean what is the Star Trek computer but a highly advanced LLM? The next step which is coming sooner than you think is essentially the Star Trek Holodeck, but in VR rather than physical space. It won’t be long before I can put on my VR headset and just ask ChatGPT to:

“Put me on the deck of a luxury yacht sailing on perfectly calm tropical waters with a margarita in my hand and Sailing by Christopher Cross playing in the background”

And within seconds a fully interactive scene is sent to my headset and I’m basically experiencing a holodeck program. With enough compute power and a a bit stronger model and this is within grasp.

Christopher Cross appears on yet another recent TV show

It seems like there's some yacht rock superfans within the screenwriter community because Christopher Cross and yacht rock appear on yet another modern TV show, this time the peacock show M.I.A.... apparently the character listens to yacht rock to help him with his mental disorder which hits hard for me since it helps me greatly with my anxiety.

So now we've got Chair Company, Beauty, Euphoria, and now M.I.A... four recent shows mentioning CC and yacht rock.

George Benson - Sailing

Never knew this existed until now... this is George Benson with an (IMO) excellent smooth jazz rendition of Sailing by Christopher Cross.

Once again Sirius XM butchers yacht rock once again with this dumb list of best yacht rock guitar solos.

While I fully agree with Jay Graydon's solo on Peg and possibly Benson on Breezin... you got two nyacht songs, and I think they could have found a better example then Baby Come Back... for instance my favorite solo, Christopher Cross on Ride like the Wind...

What other YR guitar solos would you put on this list rather than what Sirius has here?

Came across this from YRN looking for something in the crossfire. This sounds like a poor man’s Never Be the Same.

Before accusing me of being a complete yacht rock noob, I know what the Crossfire is on a basic level... it's the production style that produces that awesome smooth yachty sound on Christopher Cross' self titled album.

I know that much, but what I'm asking here is can someone with some deeper knowledge of music than I have explain what it is musically... and what to look for to find it in other songs that are not expressly CC songs. I've heard the guys mention crossfire a few times with non-CC songs and I'd love to really know what to listen for other than just "this sounds like a CC song"... thanks!

Can't believe this never got officially released, it's one of my favorite songs of his and probably deserves to be essential. Just so smooth...

The link on yachtornyacht.com is broken btw so they might want to update the site with this link.

This was posted here about a year ago, but I wanted repost this now due to the Luis Miguel submission on today's podcast.

This is I think the best chance to get Luis Miguel on the boat. It's from 1993 but sounds very yachty to me. There's a quite a bit of yacht personnel on the track as well including Robbie Buchanan who worked with Al Jarreau on his "Jarreau" album. In fact the song sounds quite a bit like "Love is Waiting" by Jarreau which made the boat last year.

Here's "Love is Waiting" for comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuuqwziu83I&list=RDyuuqwziu83I

"Suave" isn't quite to that level and Miguel is no Al Jarreau but I think it's boat worthy IMO.

I don’t feel that Charlie Puth’s colab with MM and KL should make the boat as is with its overly digitized modern production and autotune. I found this drum cover and the song sounds a whole lot better with live drums. Maybe all the song needs is a Porcaro-esque drum session to make it boat worthy?

I've been obsessed with this group and this album recently... This song while it wouldn't be yacht rock is a definite candidate for the Marina. What do you think the Ferg stick would say for this?
