For my kindergarten graduation, I sang Boyz II Men’s “A Song For Mama.” All year, my mom would play it in the car, so I could sing along and practice for the graduation performance. I remember after our kindergarten class finally had our end-of-year showcase performance, I was stepping off the stage, and my mum was beaming, tears in her eyes.

Present day, she is still my biggest cheerleader. Still there for me any time I need her. I try to take care of her, any thing she might need.

Though I’ve been struggling with finances and depression recently, I still wanted to show her that I am grateful she raised me. So I sang her that kindergarten graduation song. I practiced it all morning, and then invited my mom to come over this afternoon so I could sing it to her.

I didn’t expect it, but the way my mom sobbed as I sang for her… made me cry too.

I thanked her for being the best mum I could ask for, and I’m taking her out to a fancy lunch this week.
