Hey everyone,

I’ve been building out my console collection and wanted to get some opinions.

Right now I already have a Series X, along with a PS2, PS3, PS4 Pro, PS5 Pro, and a Wii. So I’m pretty covered across generations.

As far as Xbox goes, I already own all the games I’d want to play and they’re all backward compatible on the Series X. I’m not really planning on buying any additional 360 games.

The only reason I’d consider getting a 360 is purely for preservation. Basically just in case backward compatibility ever gets dropped in the future, and to have the original hardware for that era.

For context, I only collect in really clean condition, so I’d be looking for a new/open-box 360 if I go for it.

Do you think it’s worth it just for that reason, or is it overkill since I already have everything playable on Series X?

Appreciate any thoughts.

Hey guys, I just got an Xbox Series X. At first I had issues connecting to Xbox Live and downloading my 360 profile, but Xbox fixed that and now everything works fine on that end.

However, when I was playing Black Ops 1 the other night, everyone in the lobby was muted and I couldn’t unmute anyone. Game chat just doesn’t work at all.

I checked my settings and everything is set to adult/unrestricted, so it doesn’t seem like a privacy issue on my end.

Not sure what’s going on. Is this a known issue with Black Ops 1 on Series X or something with legacy voice chat?

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

This is my first time owning an Xbox since the Xbox One era. I picked up a Series X mainly to play some backwards compatible games.

It looks like Xbox has fixed the issue with connecting to Xbox Live and downloading Xbox 360 profiles on newer Series consoles, but I’m running into another problem.

When I play older COD titles like Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, everyone in the lobby is muted and I can’t unmute anyone. Game chat just doesn’t work at all.

I’ve tried troubleshooting everything I can think of, but no luck.

Is this a normal issue with legacy/backwards compatibility on Series X? Like some kind of authentication or voice chat limitation?

At this point I’m honestly considering just getting an Xbox 360 since that’s the main reason I bought the console in the first place.

Anyone else experiencing this or found a fix?

Looks like Jason Ronald (VP of Next Gen Xbox) just posted on X asking people to DM him if they’re having issues with Xbox Series X|S not connecting to Xbox Live on backwards compatible Xbox 360 games.

I’ve already responded to his post, and if you’re dealing with this too, I’d recommend doing the same so it gets more visibility.

I’m still hopeful this gets resolved, but it’s honestly frustrating that support has consistently told me to just use an Xbox 360 instead of offering a real solution.

We’ll see what happens, but while it has attention, it’s probably worth reaching out directly.

Thought I’d share this article too. They actually included my Reddit post about the backwards compatibility issues and support suggesting I use a 360 instead.

I’m still going to try my best to push for Xbox to fix this, but I’ll most likely be returning mine because of it.

Still, I think it’s really cool the writer included my post to help bring awareness. Shoutout to them.

(sorry for the repost)

Reports Surface of Xbox Series X|S Backwards Compatibility Issue Affecting Xbox Live

Users across the country are reporting that newly purchased Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are unable to connect to Xbox Live when launching backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles.

The issue appears to specifically impact the legacy authentication system used for Xbox 360 games on modern hardware, while standard Xbox Live functionality on newer titles remains unaffected.

Multiple players have shared similar experiences, suggesting this is not an isolated incident but a broader, potentially nationwide outage. Some users who recently purchased consoles report being unable to sign in to Xbox Live on any 360 titles immediately out of the box.

At this time, the issue is believed to be server-side. Microsoft has only acknowledged the situation with a broad statement, and reports indicate it may be under investigation.

Backwards compatibility has long been a key feature of the Xbox ecosystem, making this disruption especially notable for players returning to older titles.

More updates are expected as the situation develops.

(Customer service has reportedly suggested using an Xbox 360 instead of a Series X to access Xbox Live on these titles.)

Thoughts?
