Redact needs to be banned

Redact allows people to mass delete their comments after a certain time. It replaces useful, helpful, or just innocently funny comments with random gibberish and nonsense words.

This has been spamming our mod queues recently in one subreddit. As of today, I have had to remove 26 Redact comments that popped up this evening in the queue, with fellow moderators each removing a similar amount.

Redact needs to be banned. It is flooding up our queue, and the people who use it are not engaging with the platform in good faith.

Is there any way to counteract this beyond just "select all" + "mark as spam" all the time?

An impassioned Farhan Lalji blasts Garber & MLS; doubting if Garber's account was hacked, questioning the league business model, and saying "maybe it's MLS that's let down the Whitecaps."

Rough transcription:

On Garber's "reportedly" hacked tweet:

"Yeah, first of all, the liar liar pants on fire thing was unfortunate. I don't believe for a second that Garber's account was hacked. He didn't say hacked. That wasn't his word. It was compromised. So, what does that mean, right? Did somebody grab his phone that shouldn't have had it or what have you? Did he think he was on a burner account? I don't know. Uh, but, you know, either way, it was unfortunate. And if we get a chance to talk to him in person today after the events, then we're definitely going to ask him about it."

On the entire Whitecaps situation:

"And then, um, you know as far as the Whitecap situation, I think it's really unfortunate, because you know the fan base was doing its part, you know, and maybe in previous years it hadn't but in previous years the team hadn't done its part, now the team's doing its part. Uh, you know management is certainly doing its part in terms of yeah, you've got Thomas Muller here, but by and large it's an efficient roster. This team does business well. Is there enough sponsorship revenue and things like that? You know it doesn't appear so. My challenge with all of it is MLS in my opinion thinks it's something it's not. So I'm all about the Whitecaps and saving the Whitecaps.

The MLS part of it kind of angers me because when you know, we've used the term 'Ponzi scheme', because where's the true revenue come from in this league on a national level? Uh, it really isn't there from a league level. You know somebody said to me, well there's $2.5 billion in revenue. Well 12% of that is nationally provided. It comes locally. Their revenue, 20% of this league's revenue, comes from three franchises. Uh, the two LA teams and Miami. So the the wealth is certainly not shared the way it the way it should be. The economics don't work.

You know, when this league was first brought in, it was a case of, you know, everything was owned by the league so that everything could be divided properly. Then they started to privatize it. And it's worked for some franchises, it's worked for others.

So, you know, there's this vibe out there as everybody comes and and clamours about the stadium and what should happen, that somehow the province and the city have let down the Whitecaps. I think maybe it's MLS that's let down the Whitecaps and and people need to take a look at that part of it."

What are the reputations of the Vancouver Aquarium and Greater Vancouver Zoo like now?

I've been to both as a kid, and they were good experiences. I remember the belugas at the aquarium, the animals at the Zoo, etc.

Growing up, you hear things, criticisms about both, especially negative things about the Zoo, but how are these two places like now? Has their reputations changed for the better or worse in the last 10-20 years? Or, have they stayed the same? Are either one worth going to nowadays?

Whitecaps relocation talk raises economic concerns

Downtown Vancouver’s Business Improvement Association (BIA) estimates more than 500,000 people attended Whitecaps matches last season. Those crowds helped fill restaurants, shops and hotels, generating a significant boost for the local economy.

But BIA president and CEO Jane Talbot says the value goes beyond dollars and cents. “It’s not just about the financial impact,” said Talbot. “It’s about culture, vibrancy, and the energy these game days bring to downtown.”

Just steps from B.C. Place, Shark Club general manager Murray Saunders has seen that gameday energy firsthand. He says he has witnessed the team’s popularity grow in recent years, with seats filling up quickly before, during and after games.

On match days, the restaurant brings in more than $10,000, and Saunders says that revenue would be difficult to replace. “It would definitely hurt us,” he said.
