The more the merrier!!
I feel like one is rational and calm and knows that everything will be okay and the other is irrational and frantic and wants to destroy every meaningful relationship in my life. Every year around this time it seems the irrational side wins and I make everyone think I’m insane. I’m so tired of it, I’m so tired of thinking everyone thinks of me as a lesser person. Why does this seem to happen every year around this time?? Does anyone else experience this??
The Beach Boys are most likely done as a recording act now that Brian has passed and Bruce has left the touring act. Considering this what would you consider the last truly great beach boys song?? Here’s my list of what I think the 5 best are. Going in order of release, Latest to oldest.
That’s Why God Made The Radio
Somewhere Near Japan
Goin’ On
Getcha Back | (Lyrically this song hasn’t aged the greatest, David even told Mike as much during the 50th anniversary tour, But I can’t help but love this song.)
Good Timin’
What do you think, What would you consider the last great beach boys song??
Forget Dennis who dated his underage cousin, Mike is the real beach boys pedo. Mike secretly wrote Lazy Lizzie confirmed
The Beach Boys and Brian especially were such perfectionists that it’s interesting to hear some mistakes on their albums, The only one I can think of right now is that you can hear someone cough during ‘Wendy’ off of All Summer Long and the bike horn at the end of ‘You Still Believe In Me’ on Pet Sounds which Brian had put in in an earlier take but couldn’t remove when he decided he didn’t want it there anymore. The bike horn makes the track especially memorable to me so it’s a rather happy accident in my opinion. Are there other mistakes or happy accidents on beach boys albums??
Johnny Ray - Cry, An excellent crooner song from the era when they were king
Miles Davis - Round About Midnight , One of the greatest jazz songs of all time.
Harry Belafonte - Jump In The Line, My favorite songs by Belafonte. Harry was a major star before Rock N’ Roll took over. The first million sold record was his Calypso album.
Howlin’ Wolf - Smokestack Lightning, Gotta put a blues track on this list. The rock and rollers that followed were all inspired by the blues men and their records. This is a great track that became Howlin’ Wolf’s signature song.
Les Paul & Mary Ford - How High The Moon, One of my favorite all time songs. Les was a hell of a guitar player and Mary is an underrated vocalist in my opinion
Hank Williams - Ramblin’ Man, My favorite Hank Williams track. It’s absolutely haunting to me, Very evocative.
The Beach Boys : An obvious choice as they’re my favorite band of all time.
The Everly Brothers : The greatest Rock N’ Roll harmony ever in my opinion, Can’t get enough of the Everlys!!
The Four Lads : A decently underrated group from the pre Rock N’ Roll 50s. Love their harmony as well.
The Louvin Brothers : Basically the face of country harmony, They are fantastic and I highly recommend any one who sees this post to listen to their album ‘Satan Is Real’.
The Mills Brothers : Last but certainly not least, The Mills brothers along with The Ink Spots basically invented Doo-Wop. Highly influential group!!
