Skipping NEET after 2 attempts… is Bioinformatics worth it in India?
Hey everyone,
my_qualifications: Asking on behalf of my sister (PCB student, completed 12th, 2 NEET attempts)
I’m looking for some honest advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation or have experience in this field.
My sister has been preparing for NEET for the past 2 years. She gave it her all, but she doesn’t feel confident about clearing it this time either. She’s 19 now and completed her 12th last year. After a lot of thinking, she’s starting to accept that NEET might not work out for her, and we’re exploring other career options.
One option she’s considering is Bioinformatics, but we don’t have much clarity on it.
I wanted to ask:
- Is bioinformatics a good career option in India right now?
- What kind of colleges should we aim for?
- How are the job opportunities, salary growth, and future scope?
- Is it more research-oriented or does it have industry roles as well?
- Any alternative courses you’d recommend for someone with a biology background?
Would really appreciate insights from anyone who has studied bioinformatics or is currently working in this field. Even general guidance would help a lot—we’re just trying to make a practical, informed decision at this point.
Thanks in advance 🙏
