every time i see dissociation mentioned outside of specialized places, there's always something that triggers spiralling for me

and it pisses me off so badly.

for instance:

i see a comment about dissociative amnesia and immediately someone comes in to say that repressed memories are "debated".

obviously it isn't a common thing for most people to experience dissociative amnesia, but from my POV, it's pointless debate over something i know (mostly, because it's vehemently denied by multiple parts) exists and that has a huge bearing on my life. despite not being able to remember anything for so long and it causing me great difficulty many times, it's "debated". sure.

or another example of dissociative states/DID being brought up requires someone else to mention that it's a 'controversial' diagnosis despite all of the evidence of its existence.

i'm just so sick of seeing things that cause me to spiral into doubt. it's gotten easier to manage as i've worked on things, but it's still so difficult not to fall into those traps of believing i'm imagining it or causing it all to happen to myself.

i guess i just need someone to tell me i'm not stupid or making it all up.

i wish people would stop telling traumatized people that their experiences aren't valid in some professionals' eyes. it makes everything so much harder.

Horses are unguligrade animals, meaning they walk on the tips of their digits rather than the soles of their feet. What looks like a horse’s leg below the knee is actually mostly one elongated middle finger ending in the hoof
