Surgery in our future?
Hi folks.
I’m the partner of 35F with lower back scoliosis. Without having her medical paperwork in front of me, it was 12 degrees 3-4 years ago and is now at 28 degrees. It’s an S curve and there are related disc issues (slippage?) from it. She has chronic pain and nerve pain, she is also hypermobile.
She’s engaged in care and has a follow up about it but I’m anxious! We are low income already and nervous about the possibility that a major (maybe life changing) surgery putting her at risk of needing to stop working to pursue disability. We don’t want her pain worsening one way or the other. She can only work certain jobs now due to the pain.
Is she a candidate for surgery as it gives her pain and has progressed or is she too old now?
Should anticipating her needing a major surgery?
What is the post-op recovered life like? Better than the chronic pain? Or just different and complex.
I’m a worrywart and trying to be supportive and not an alarmist, but the negative consequences of what this could be (at its worst) would be really hard on us.
