ucsd or ucb

so I got in to ucsd for fall 26 and ucb for spring 27. I’d be studying IR at ucsd and political Econ at ucb. anybody here pick ucsd over berkeley? what led you to make that decision? I’m from sd so staying here would be nice and comfortable, ucb would take me out of my comfort zone and it was my dream school last yr, got rejected, applied again and got in by surprise! but after getting rejected i stopped idealizing it, i realize how much i appreciate the weather and everything ab sd, but also i might regret not going to berkeley. cost is not a concern but ucsd would give me more of a refund back than berkeley, still though I got a free ride from Berkeley with work study, and ucsd free ride without work study. lmk thoughts

Berkeley Spring (10-15k) or UCSD fall (FREE!)

UCSD fall start or Berkeley Spring

I got into Berkeley for spring 2027 and it’s going to cost me 10k-15k for the degree (including personal expenses) I got most of my tuition and housing covered by a scholarship and aid (-1500 SAI) I also got into UCSD for fall 2026 and they’re offering me a full ride and would likely get a refund each quarter. I prefer Berkeley as a whole but is it worth the extra money and waiting longer to start? I want to go into business and I’d be studying political Econ at berkeley and international relations at UCSD. Born and raised in SD and have never left, craving a change tbh but I also love sd so much!! I’m also 23 so I’ve already postponed my degree a little too long. Lmk your thoughts pls

I want to live and work in San Diego after I obtain my degree. I hope to land a corporate business role in either product marketing, marketing, recruiting, business ops. I have the option of going to UCSD for free or Berkeley for about 15k total for the degree. For those of you who have experience in these fields in SD, would the Berkeley name make me stand out? I know the market is competitive so I just want to make sure spending that much on a degree would be worth it. Berkeley’s location is also great for gaining experience. Hometown is SD, born and raised here.

Hometown is SD, born and raised here. I want to take the leap but is Berkeley worth 10-20k ? I also wanted to add I have savings to cover the cost of Berkeley but it’s hard for me to pass up a free degree in an amazing city like SD, not sure if I’ll like the Bay Area. 23F

I’m a 23 yo transfer student trying to decide between the two! Goal is a cushie corporate role in SD (marketing, product marketing, recruiting, business ops). I was born and raised in San Diego and have never left because I love it so much!! I’m worried I might regret not taking Berkeley’s offer especially since the Bay Area is rich in opportunities and I could use that as leverage to ultimately return and work in SD (tough market) I’m able to afford Berkeley on my own because I have savings so it’s making the decision really difficult. Everyone is telling me choose Berkeley because I’ll never have this opportunity again but I’ll always have my family/ opportunity to live in SD. UCSD however would be completely free to attend & would come w other perks like priority enrollment and mentorship program with the CASP scholarship, but if I chose to attend UCSD I’d be making the more comfortable/safe choice.

for context I am a 23 YO CCC student born and raised in SD and have been admitted to UCSD for psych (I’d try to switch into international relations) and UCB for global studies. I want to go into business consulting or law, I’ll be 24 by the time I start

Pros for UCSD-

FREE TO ATTEND (would probs be getting paid to go)

Familiar with the area

Amazing beaches & weather

Fall admit (i’m spring at Berkeley)

Would be able to keep my legal assistant job while in school!

Priority enrollment after 1st quarter (Chancellors scholar)

Cons UCSD-

Not a huge fan of the campus (grey, spread out boring, no college town)

Might regret not taking the opportunity to get out of SoCal for a bit & might regret turning down Berkeley

Pros Berkeley-

Brand new environment

Walkable city

Prestige

Access to SF

Only 2k a semester to attend

Always wanted to experience living in the Bay Area & I think change would be good

Cons Berkeley-

Rough area

Worried I’m going to hate the Bay Area (i honestly love SoCal so much & want to end up in SoCal but not 100% sure bc I’ve never experienced living in NorCal)

Crime

Still deciding please lmk your thoughts

I just accepted a job at law firm as a legal assistant with no education or experience in law. The start date is beginning of next month however I just received an acceptance to my dream school (7 hours away) in a different part of the state. I’ve already signed the offer letter. How should I go about telling my employer? I’m worried it might damage our relationship as he could easily find out exactly what day I got my acceptance letter from the school which was during the interview process. I’m still in the process of deciding where to go but I’m heavily leaning towards that school. During our interview process he asked me if I was planning to stay long term & I responded yes however with my long term plans it only leaves me about 7 months to work at that firm before school starts.
