Why Spotify doesn’t pay artists from the ads they run between songs like other platforms do 🧐
I just realized Spotify doesn’t pay artists from the ads they run between songs like YouTube does and many more.
Artists only get paid per stream, not from the actual ad money Spotify makes off free listeners. Which is wild when you do the math.
Right now 1M Spotify streams usually makes around $3k–$5k before distro cuts. But if ad revenue was shared too, it could be way more.
Imagine Spotify makes around $10 per 1,000 ad impressions and a listener hears ads every few songs. Over 1M streams, that could easily add another $5k–$10k+ in ad revenue on top of stream payouts depending on listener activity.
So instead of making maybe $4k total from 1M streams, artists could potentially be making closer to $10k–$15k. Kinda crazy Spotify never talks about this.
you can do the math yourself https://streamsboost.com/?goto=calculator its kinda crazy
A few months ago I was stuck at around 150–200 monthly listeners no matter what I did. I used a free trial on this tool https://streamsboost.com/order?package=Free%20Trial 😂 over time I started seeing my monthly listeners climb — 500, then 1k, then eventually around 5k. Still not huge numbers, but way better than being stuck. Curious if anyone else here has broken out of that 100–300 listener plateau — what made the difference for you?
Was trying to figure out how much Spotify actually pays per stream and kept seeing different numbers everywhere.
Came across this simple calculator:

You just put in your streams and it gives you a rough estimate of earnings. Nothing fancy but it’s actually helpful to visualize how much streams are worth.
Kinda made me realize how many streams you really need to make decent money on Spotify 😅
Curious if the estimates are accurate for you guys or if your payouts look different?
