PR-A 02 "Flying Monkey"

The most commonly used anthropter, the Flying Monkey was both easy to produce and exceedingly reliable. It stood at 4 metres (Wingspan 6m), with a stout, bulky shape. Its dome-shaped head featured a multitude of cameras allowing for exeptional omnidirectional vision. Armaments consisted of a machine gun and a short sword, allowing it to attack from all ranges.

My main inspirations for the design were early flying machines and the Gutter man from Ultrakill :) I also took some design elements from various mobile suits, including the Leo and HQ Zaku

The cockpit is in the upper part of the torso as well as the head, and the entrance is through a hatch on the crotch area.

Here a short text describing how the anthropter is steered.

"Alright, I guess I'll give you the rundown." The two of us crammed ourselves through the hatch into the cockpit, which was really only supposed to be occupied by one person. The captain gestured around the cockpit, which was filled with so many buttons, switches and moving pieces that I struggled to comprehend everything my eyes were seeing. Above the control panel in front of the pilot seat, multiple monitors were mounted onto the inside of the anthropter's dome-shaped head, which the captain drew my attention to.

"That one there is the main camera, everything else is secondary. This one here-" she leaned over to a monitor on the right displaying a bunch of numbers, "- will tell you things like how much gas it's got left, what the temperature in- and outside the cabin is, and so on and so forth. And this one," she pointed to another monitor on the left, "shows you the wind currents around your machine. This is important, it may be able to fly without help through the icarium pillow, but if you really want to master it, learning to ride the wind is just as important. You got all that? Good. Now let's move on to the actual controls."

"We'll start with the pedals." There were three of them in total attached to the floor of the cockpit. "The right one accelerates, the left one decelerates. If you step on the left one real good, chances are you'll stop completely." I didn't like the sound of "chances are", but held my tongue to not interrupt the captain. "The middle one will make you rise, and from there it's up to the wind and your current position whether you'll sink back down again."

"These pistons you control with your hands, and they're also used to steer the anthropter's arms. Push the handle down to stretch the elbow, pull it back to bend. Rotating the handle will move the arm left or right. All quite simple really. Both have a button near the top of the handle, if you'll just..." I complied and stuck my arm into the right piston, clamping my hand around the handle. "You press that button once to close the fist, and again to open it. That's how you'll be holding your weapons. Don't go pressing it by accident! I don't want to have to buy a new machine gun for this one just because you dropped it by mistake. Anyway, the right piston has an extra button. Holding it down while grabbing onto the machine gun will have your main camera enter targeting mode. Of course, if you're using the short sword or not holding any weapon at all, the button won't do anything. Both handles have a button at the bottom, that one controls the leg verniers on its respective side. Use those to move left and right. Finally, the button above that is for equipping weapons. Got it?"

"Finally, we've got these." The captain rapidly pointed to a series of switched at the top of the cockpit, above the seat, while naming their functions. "That one toggles conservation mode, meaning you'll be slower in exchange for extended operation time. That one turns the air conditioning on and off and that one switches your machine's stance from ranged to close combat, but you can ignore it for now, I don't want a beginner like you getting up close and personal with any leviathans anytime soon." I nodded adamantly, even though I struggled to retain half of what she was telling me.

"Oh, and one more thing: if you ever smell icarium inside your cockpit, return to the ship immediately. That means it's somehow leaking in, and though breathing it in isn't inherently toxic, if you allow it to accumulate you run risk of asphyxiation. The open air isn't a good place to asphyxiate."

Drew a Zaku for the first time, also my first time doing proper shading. Lmk how I did👍

Was going for a relatively simple style, which 0079 MS obviously lend themselves to, but couldn't resist adding a tiny bit of surface detail
