I made tiny 30-pin iPod docks because off-center Nanos annoyed me

Designed some simple iPod docks that properly center the iPod Nanos.

I made them because a lot of basic 30-pin docks make certain Nano models sit slightly off-center, and once you see it, it looks cursed.

They print in about 25 minutes, use the common 30-pin cable, and are easy to dock / undock daily.

I made versions for most iPod Nanos, plus iPod Touch.

Also, slightly related: I recently ditched Spotify. By next month, once I’ve converted all my music, I’m cancelling my subscription completely.

Have you guys also noticed how Spotify’s algorithm makes listening less enjoyable? It keeps repeating the same 30 songs from my 1500-song playlist, and when I turn on smart shuffle it tries to force-feed me random garbage I never asked for.

I Ditched Spotify for iPods: And designed custom docks!

I designed these minimalist iPod docks for charging, displaying, and storing them at the same time.

And it makes the nano's also centered with the dock!!

If you guys are interested, I’ll optimize the files and upload them to MakerWorld so you can download and print them

Recently I got interested in the movement away from modern media, mostly because I was curious about \*why\* people are doing it. I decided to write an article for my blog about it, but it is slowly turning into a mini-book.

Since Monday, I’ve gone into a full media blackout. My phone has basically nothing on it except banking apps ect. I already didn’t have social media on my phone, but now there’s also no browser, and on PC I only use forums and WhatsApp little to none.

And life has been great. There is so much more peace and mental clarity.

One thing I didn’t expect was realizing how much Spotify was algorithmically shaping my mood with my own music. It kept me listening, but not really enjoying music. It kept repeating the same specific songs, while the rest of my playlists basically never saw daylight.

With this iPod, I finally listen to songs I had completely forgotten about. These little buggers are amazing. Luckily, the battery still lasts about a full day of listening and maybe more but have not tried.

I’m also thinking of getting an iPod Classic to mod as my daily driver with all my songs, and keeping the Nano for on the go stuff like gym, reading.

Very interested if you guys have felt the same leaving Spotify or any other music streaming app?

I’m writing an article: Back to the Past: How Modern Tech Is Destroying Our Minds.

After only a full day of research, one thing became clear: the problem is worse than most people think.

If you’ve tried digital minimalism, quitting social media, dumbphones, blocking apps, or going back to older tech:

What actually changed in real life?

Did your attention, reading, creativity, sleep, relationships, or mental clarity improve — or did the problem simply move somewhere else?

I’m especially interested in "mental clarity", because that seems like a major factor that is not widely discussed but mentioned!

I’m not looking for ideology. I’m looking for what actually happens.

Also I’m going to test this myself with a stripped-down setup:

iPhone 4 as my main phone

iPod for music

simple Sony Cyber-shot from around 2010 for photos

reMarkable for notes, writing and reading

laptop for school, or my 2014 MacBook Air

Possible ipad mini in the bag

Yes, the iPhone could technically do music too, but the battery is not exactly heroic anymore.
