What's the benefit of using Ubuntu? Most packages are old - discussion

Hey,

first of all, I came back to Ubuntu from another Arch based distro because I wanted to test but there are a few things which are kinda meh.

So for example, when installing software over the CLI via apt, a lot of software is out of date. Is this supposed to be the case? One example is rclone. When I install rclone, an older version will be installed. This could cause issues because security wise this is not good. I remember, for example, older versions had issues with the RNG for password generation making passwords not completely random.

There are other apps which face the same issue. Is there a "workaround" or is this expected?

BTW: how old are Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu?

Flash or Expert for daily stuff?

Do you use flash or expert for daily, non so deep technical stuff with thinking enabled or not? I feel like using flash with thinking disabled is really, really bad. I wonder about your experience.

Extended thinking default?

I wonder if there is a reason to use the instant mode with routing to thinking enabled? AFAIK when this model got released the routing to thinking was broken, making the answers worse. So why should I use instant with the option to use thinking when needed when the usage limit is that high to always use extended thinking all the time?

Fast, thinking and pro

Maybe a stupid question but when do you chose what option? Also, how much of a quality difference are the different modes? I have a subscription just to mention.

Hey all,

anybody here using Searxng and selfhosting it over the public Internet? I was able to activate the limiter but it seems like it's using the wrong IP address blocking all IP addresses.

I have Cloudflare proxy mode activated. Can anybody guide me through the setup so it works?
