I'm thinking about bypassing CarPlay altogether and just using my iPhone via HDMI

This skips all the nonsense with Chinese Android systems and gives me the full iPhone interface while parked when I want it. My head unit. (Alpine ILX7020) already supports this, although ironically when the previous owner plumbed the wiring to my stereo they didn't plug in any HDMI ports.

I would have to run a HDMI port to somewhere useful like the glovebox or centre console. I'm wondering if I should. My only problems are that:

  1. HDMI doesn't charge the phone at the same time.
  2. Lightning to HDMI dongles are hideously expensive.
  3. The screen on my head unit is getting long in the tooth and is only 480p

I could also go back out to a second screen with a splitter and run 1080p but on a 2003 CLK that was never designed for an infotainment screen I wouldn't know where to run it to, and the rear seats are practically useless so that's not an option for where to put another screen.

#17 The Room of Last Resort: Navigating the "Room 403" Forbidden Zone.

I'm a sociologist looking at why the system has become a 'provider of last resort.' I'm calling it 'Provision via Capture.' Does the infinite loop between civilian life, the ER department, and the jail/prison cell resonate with your experience?

Take a look at my work and see for yourself. This isn't a solicitation, I don't care if you subscribe, click, or even upvote. I really don't give a shit. I'm also an academic so I can only see the effects second hand. I just thought it might resonate in someone's mind. I'm also not here to treat you like zoo animals there's enough data out there to do that.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, and I'm interrupting or something, but how else do we break the loop? I'm an academic that is no longer in the institution using its own voice to speak back to it.

President Obama's Anger Translator (C-SPAN)

I remember a time when being angry was actually funny. Given how long Obama has been out of office you should to. Almost 10 years out of office, and given this was a satire, I don't believe this is politics.

What a world we used to live in.

🏛️ 18: The Architecture of the Triad: Beyond the Hegemony of "English language" Economics.

In this article I posit that cross-cultural cognition functions as a "dual cognitive framing system" rather than a split personality. Having "cross cultural competencies" enables a shift in communicative values. I argue that the Greek "triadic" approach, which utilizes three-layered arguments for structural closure and efficacy, often gets mistaken for redundancy in English-language, efficiency-driven contexts, while making the point that it's not a redundant form of argument at all.

It is an article that can be read stand alone, and while bereft of direct references, it speaks explicitly to known theories.
