Anyone Rocking a Ruger LCP Max?

Recently I have been thinking about taking my p238 out of my carry rotation as I’d not be able to easily replace it IF I needed to. It’s served well for the 10+ yrs I carried it. With that in mind I have been looking for a replacement “pocket” pew. I didn’t vibe with the Bodyguard 2.0 that I tried but oddly enough the LCP Max seemed like a winner (for me) when I shot it. Does anyone have any personal experience with this pocket pew long term?

Thanks all

“The First Lady” 🤢 by Bond Arms

“Following the launch of the Bond Arms DT47, the over-under model that Bond Arms launched last year to commemorate the second term of President Donald Trump, Bond Arms is now doing something similar with the new First Lady derringer. The right side of the derringer features a laser-engraved profile of First Lady Melania Trump wearing the iconic hat that the nation witnessed back in January 20, 2025 during President Donald Trump’s second inauguration. In addition to the First Lady’s profile, Bond Arms also engraved “First Lady” in cursive script on the top barrel, and “ Class, Strength, Beauty” on the bottom barrel.”

Not that I have any desire to own any of their products but this one kinda made me throw up in my mouth a bit when I saw it… ick

Brass Catcher Recommendations

Hi all - I hand-load all my centerfire calibers and for pistols they just don’t launch the brass like the mini does. I’ve tuned and tamed down the mini via a reduced gas bushing but it still launches brass pretty far. 223 brass is also not nearly as inexpensive to buy as pistol brass so I’d like to hold onto as much of it as possible.

Does anyone use or have a recommendation for brass catchers that work for the mini-14?

CFE 223 likes it spicy?

Hi y’all - so new to loading rifle rounds but not reloading. Been loading pistol for 12ish years. After getting over my adjustment of “HOW many grains!?” compared to pistol rounds I’ve been able to run the first few 223 rounds that I loaded. What i’m using:

CFE 223 (started at 26gr now up to 27.2)
X-treme 55gr FMJ BT
COL 2.20
Mixed brass
Firearm mini-14 on a bench
Brass is currently relatively clean and appears to be sealing well in the chamber, gun cycles reliably as well.

At the low weight charges my rounds were hitting low and to the right (factory loads hit POA) after bumping up I’ve gotten to 27.2grn, groups have tightened up and raised up more but not quite at point of aim yet. Zero signs of overpressure, primers are looking good and so on (yay.) Hornady has a max load of 28.5 (compressed), the Lee manual is more conservative with a max of 27.8.

My question: is CFE 223 just one of those powders that likes a near max charge?

Thanks all

Ruger Rifle Range day!

I’ve been working up some hand loads for the Mini-14 and decided to take along my 10/22 takedown for some cheap fun after. Both are such great shoots!
The Mini I’m running iron sights only, reduced gas bushing and an internal buffer (that all seems to have tamed it down a bit) and the 10/22 is wearing a Bushnell trs-25 red dot, BX trigger (with some additional internal polishing) and some other parts here and there. I’m thinking about running the TD 10/22 in an upcoming steel match at the local club. A red dot on a 22lr always feels like a cheat code lol
I’m also a sucker for a stainless steel rifle if you couldn’t tell. Anyway happy Sunday all!

Hi all - I’ve been loading pistol calibers for about 10-12years but not any rifle yet. I was going to start with some 223 plinking type rounds and had a question about case prep. I’ve read some conflicting information so I’d like some feedback. I’m loading on a Lee Classic Turret and have four stations I can setup.

The questions:

For 223 is it advisable to charge “off press” individually and basically use the Turret as a single stage to decap/size, prime, seat, and then crimp?

For 223 how well do the small handheld trimmers work for case length or should I bite the bullet so to speak and get some sort of bench mounted trimmer?

Also is it advisable to anneal before trimming or after?

I’m not looking for precise match ammo, just some plinking rounds at lower cost - average range will be 25-100yard uses. I’m very comfortable at the reloading bench for pistol but this is my first attempt at rifle rounds.

Thanks in advance

Hi all,

With the ATF more than likely changing up the 4473 sooner than later I wanted to make one last pew purchase before that happens. I already have my bases covered for home defense and carry options so this would be purely for fun/range/backup/possible competition build. (Pics to help visualize and for attention lol)

Current calibers - 22lr, 380acp, 9mm, 45acp, 223/556, 12ga (also I hand load my pistol rounds)

The budget - all in out the door around $600.

The “shortlist”

A lever action 22, this would be fun to pair with my 22 single action and I don’t own any lever guns

A new 10/22 - it comes with the BX trigger, threaded barrel, and “updated” receiver that allows access for cleaning. It would be the base for a precision 22 build and I already have a 10/22 takedown and sporter so I’m in that ecosystem already

A centerfire revolver - probably in 45acp so I don’t have to add a new die setup to my reloading bench but am open to other calibers. Currently I only have a 22 single action

The Ruger RXM - the “not a Glock” Glock, I could sub this in for carry optics and since it’s based on the G19 parts and accessories are everywhere. I also have a SCT 19 frame that I can swap the slide onto if I want so there’s overlap in the system

A Glock 48 MOS - I have a 43x build already so I have mags and accessories that would be interchangeable. This would sort of be a backup to that and probably rotate into my carry system.

Canik Mete SF One series - This would be purely as a backup to my current Mete SF which is my “do it all” set up. I’ve been using it in carry optics and it’s a backup for home defense, the extra plus is the “one” series now allows mounting full sized optics which the original does not- so I could swap the new upper onto my current lower and get a full size optic on the lower that I’ve already built up. The One series is inexpensive and cost less than some G19 slides even.

The Canik Mete SFX - the 5.2” long boi full size Canik. Since I hand load I can optimize ammo for the 5.2” barrel, I already have some full sized mags that I use as back for my compact Canik.. downside is I live in a restricted state and no one makes 15rd full sized mags for Canik so I’d be limited to 10rds.. which kinda sucks if I want to set this up for a “race” gun build

The Walther PDP 5” compact - it would be the base of a competition build and with the compact frame the standard mags are easier to come by and I get all 15rds. With the 5” slide it would help settle it down a bit.. this would be the “stretch” option for me since it’s at the top of the budget if not slightly above.

Last and probably least lol

The Rossi Brawler in 556/223 - a single shot “pirate” gun that would be a fun range toy and completely impractical (but lots of giggles and good times) who doesn’t want a pirate gun? Down side / it’s a single shot 556 break action pistol (but hey it has a threaded barrel!)

What’s your favorite / thoughts / opinions?

Side note / I’m good on ammo and such, this is really just one last fun pew to squeeze in before the ATF anti trans BS “rule” gets enacted.

The Firearms Policy Collation condensed the proposed rule changes by the ATF / yes including the anti trans rule #17 and made the list below.

The clock starts ticking now - generally once publicly published they take public comment for 30 days and then they publish the finalized rules which would include the “biological” sex rule. Full list of proposed changes below 👇

The ATF has posted summaries of the new regulations, which include:

  1. Repeal Biden's pistol brace rule

  2. Revising "engaged in the business" rule

  3. Revising machine gun definition in response to Cargill decision

  4. Remove requirement for FFLs to post info about Youth Handgun Safety Act

  5. Revising 4473 form, including allowing electronic forms and increase the time NICS checks remain valid

  6. Allow FFLs to keep electronic records

  7. Replace indefinite retention of 4473s with definite time periods of 20 or 30 years

  8. Allow “Non-Over-the-Counter” firearm sales by FFLs to residents of the same state

  9. Repeal interstate NFA transport notice requirement for trips under 365 days, with all others no longer requiring approval before transport

  10. Joint NFA registration for married couples

  11. Remove NFA CLEO notification

  12. Clarify that "common, reasonably necessary activities during travel" are covered by FOPA transportation protection

  13. Allow import of dual-use frames, receivers, and barrels

  14. Clarify that "training rounds" are not ammunition

  15. Eliminate engraving requirement for people making NFA firearms out of existing serialized guns

  16. "Clarify that a person receiving assistance in only one functional area (such as financial management) would not, on that basis alone, be considered prohibited" under mental health disqualifier

  17. Requiring biological sex on ATF Forms

  18. Clarify when a transaction is a straw purchase

  19. Formally define "willfully" for firearms violations

  20. "Remove the list of former Soviet countries from which ATF currently denies applications to permanently import most firearms and ammunition, retaining only the Russian Federation"

I had a HexDragonfly die on me and since it’s no longer made (fine by me) Springfield warranty replaced it with a Viridian RFX 25. Seems like there are mixed reviews with Viridian dots so was wondering what others experience with them have been?

*clarification.* so I didn’t buy the dot- my XDm came with a Dragonfly and it got a crack in the lens. It said “lifetime warranty” so I reached out to Springfield and at no charge they sent the RFX25 (after I sent back the dead dot which they also paid shipping for) The RFX25 is the Doctor mount which my XDm came with. The whole process took about a week - so shout out to Springfield customer service.

Hey all - I have had a Mete SF for a few years now and I was thinking about getting the Mete SF “One” as a backup/new build project. While reading the specs it says the “One” accepts RMR dots… but the “regular” does not? Are the One series slides milled differently than the regular series or is this just an adapter plate that Canik is including now? I’d like to get a dot with a bigger window if this is now a possibility for the Mete SF - anyone know what’s going on with the spec change?

Hi Y’all looking for some clarification/advice.

I’ve been handling firearms longer than I should apparently admit (at least according to some other users lol) that’s neither here nor there - however I’ve only been using pistol red dots for the last 5ish years or so. Usually I zero them for between 10-15 yards but I recently picked up a Cyelee dot for a pew and it had this zeroing guide that recommends only doing a zero at 25 yards, which is the first I had heard of this. Is this correct?

I’ve come across conflicting information and curious about other’s experience and opinions. I use dots on various pistols from home defense setup to now steel challenge shooting. I’m heading to the range a bit later today to re-zero a different dot after a battery replacement (that one has the battery under the dot) and am wondering if I should indeed set the zero at 25 yards. Thanks in advance!
