Lapping plate grit

I typically use an atoma 140 for flattening my whetstones but have decided I want a 10x4 and also had three questions:

  1. When flattening high grit stones (let's say an #8000 grit whetstone) - isn't the Atoma #140 ruining the surface since it's so much more coarse than #8000? Should I be lapping it flat with a much higher grit lapping surface (maybe a #1000 grit diamond plate).

  2. I've been looking at the Sharpal 10x4, Dia-Flat and Jende. Any recommendations?

  3. For diamond resin bonded stones (cheefarcuut, venev, FSK etc for example), is a diamond lapping plate what should be used to flatten them? Wouldn't it destroy the lapping plate since the stone is also diamond? I don't want to use SiC powder due to the mess.

Thanks for any advice.

Is there a consensus as to which of the brands' diamond stones are the best?

And is there any benefit to them vs the electroplated diamond plates I already have? I know they may last longer but I'm more focused on sharpening quality.

Thanks.

Was bought in an eBay bulk lot. Claude translated some of the kanji to be aogami but I don't read Japanese. Any help would be appreciated as usual!

Love buying lots to restore and sharpen. Never know what you'll find.

Went through a phase where I collected everything sharpening related and have shed everything I don't have any interest in anymore like all my Arkansas stones, barber hones etc and now I'm down to the last.

I have a butt load if vintage SiC and India stones I got off eBay and restored. Some have wooden boxes, some have their original cardboard boxes, most have nothing.

Too many to list especially since their value is very limited.

If anyone is interested is something like this, chat me and we can work something out.

Thanks and have a good weekend.
