cbsnews.comGoogle Timeline is terrible at tracking ‘cities visited’
Rant incoming: Does anyone else get annoyed with how Google Timeline handles 'cities visited'?
As someone who uses Timeline for tracking my travel, I’ve noticed that if I go somewhere clearly in a city, timeline will sometimes log it under a random unincorporated area instead even though the business address is clearly in the citiy limits.
Attached examples show a restaurant in Charlottesville, VA being listed as "Pantops, VA": https://imgur.com/a/2B6qxWY
But if you open the location, it shows the correct place in the city, but the “Cities” list still credits the visit to the smaller town/unincorporated place.
Another annoying issue I've noticed is if I stop on the edge of a city (like a travel stop off the highway), it logs the visit to timeline but doesn’t count the city at all even if the address is in that city.
