Word is freezing my computer

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my PC where it randomly freezes for about a minute. It happens both when I’m using Word (I think it might be Microsoft Word causing it) and sometimes even when I’m just browsing the internet.

The freeze usually lasts around 30–60 seconds, and then everything goes back to normal. No crash or error message, just a temporary lock-up.

Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 11

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: 16 GB (2667 MHz)

GPU: Radeon RX 5500 XT (8 GB)

Storage: 475 GB total, 129 GB free on C: drive

Things I’ve noticed:

It doesn’t only happen in Word, but I feel like it happens more often when Word is open

No blue screen or system restart

Happens intermittently, not constantly

I’m not sure if this is a software issue (Word, Windows, drivers?) or something hardware-related.

Any ideas on what could be causing this or what I should check first?

Thanks in advance!

Snapdragon good?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 14Q8X9 for my studies, and my typical usage is quite heavy multitasking:

- Around 8+ browser tabs open at the same time

- Excel, Word, and PowerPoint running simultaneously

- Often using a second external monitor (dual screen setup)

This model comes with a Snapdragon X (X1-26-100), so I’m trying to understand how it compares to Intel (i5/i7) or AMD Ryzen in real-world use.

For people who have actually used Snapdragon X laptops or know about it:

  1. How is real-world performance for multitasking like this compared to Intel or AMD?

  2. Does it stay smooth when everything is open at once (especially with Excel + dual screen)?

  3. Is the battery life really close to the advertised numbers (20h+), or more like a normal laptop?

  4. How is app compatibility nowadays (Office, Chrome, Zoom, etc.)? Any annoying issues with emulation?

  5. Any regrets vs going with a traditional x86 laptop?

Would you recommend this laptop for this kind of student usage, or is Intel/AMD still the safer choice?

Also, I went to a regular electronics store recently and noticed a lot of laptops now come with 32GB RAM. Is that becoming the new standard, or is 16GB still enough for most people?

And based on my usage, what kind of configuration would you recommend? (e.g. minimum i7 + 16GB RAM, etc.)

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the long post 😅
