Insane over charges

Has anyone ever dealt with a massive mobile data overage/glitch with Virgin Plus or another phone company?

On April 18th I suddenly started getting texts saying I was reaching data overage charges:

11:00pm – 95% data warning
11:26pm – $300 in additional data charges
11:40pm – $500 in additional data charges

Then at 3:40am I got a text saying that I’m $50 over my data had been temporarily blocked because of additional charges.

When I checked my account that morning, my bill suddenly showed over $1200 in data overages. Apparently in only a couple hours I had gone around 70GB over my plan.

The thing is, this makes absolutely no sense for my usage. I have a 60GB plan and I never even come close to using all my data normally. I also wasn’t even halfway through my billing cycle when this happened.

I called Virgin immediately and they blocked the data. Since then it’s been almost 3 weeks of back and forth calls. Some reps have told me it sounds like a glitch/impossible usage, while others say the charges are “valid.” Another rep told me they couldn’t investigate properly until the bill officially generated.

Now the bill is out and it’s over $1400. I paid my normal monthly amount, but obviously I cannot afford this and honestly would never pay that for data usage I don’t believe actually happened.

I’ve been with Virgin for years and have NEVER gone over my data before. I’m also confused why the supposed legal data block text didn’t come until hours after all the overages had already piled up.

Has anyone experienced something similar or successfully disputed something like this? I feel like I’m getting nowhere and the situation is really stressing me out.
