Clergy and lay leaders - how do you handle Mother's Day?

So I'll admit this has a personal dimension - it's my first Mother's Day as a priest, and I admit I'm getting sentimental about being able to call myself Mother.

But, I also recognize that it's a super fraught holiday that is both "totally secular and doesn't belong in church" and "historically a lot of mothers take it very seriously and will be hurt if it's not mentioned in church" and "people have very mixed experiences of their own mothers, possibly difficulties with infertility, and other traumas that make Mother's Day really hard" -- all mixed together in pretty much every congregation. Being sensitive to all of it is certainly a pastoral challenge!

I've seen a few different strategies - how are you personally handling it?

I’m on the hunt for a really good scone.

Hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. I live riverfront area but willing to travel especially if there’s parking.

Ideally:

* not too sweet (not a cake!)

* balanced texture (buttery and tender, not too crumbly or dry, but also not so dense it’s like eating a rock)

* ideally not super huge, I eat smaller portions and although I’m willing to save for later, they’re best fresh!

* bonus for interesting flavors (like blueberry is fine but a matcha apple scone or whatever would be cool!)

What are your best ideas, Reddit hivemind?

So, I’m looking at this chart and there’s a noticeable increase in age around that time. (If someone also wants to comment on the relatively higher age especially for men in the beginning of this chart, I’d also be curious about this!)

I have some gut assumptions about expectations around bigger weddings, social attitudes toward “extended adolescence” and changing attitudes around sex and birth control, but I’m curious to know what the actual historical data is!

I can almost set my watch to a post in this sub in which someone asks if Harney&Sons and/or Adagio are good brands of tea, and at least one highly upvoted comment says "no, it's overpriced and low quality" or "you can easily find cheaper/better versions of the same thing", and at least one person (it might be me) asks for examples, and gets ignored.

So, here is your chance to prove me wrong - are there actually better, cheaper versions of the following flavors, available in the US? I'm looking for loose leaf I can buy in bulk (pound bags are good) that are comparable in quality but cheaper (including the fact that I can get free shipping for a lot of them) and/or higher quality at a comparable price.

  • H&S - Paris

  • H&S - Victorian London Fog

  • Adagio - Earl Grey Moonlight (nb, specifically the cornflower/cream notes, not looking for a generic Earl Grey)

  • Adagio - Campfire s'mores (Lapsang souchong plus chocolate and vanilla notes)

Note, I am not looking for how you've found an alternative to some other flavor I didn't list here - I agree that H&S and Adagio are both wildly variable and have some truly crappy flavors that can be found better elsewhere. I am specifically looking for someone to prove me wrong that these are the best brands to get these specific flavors that I like.

Also note, yes, I like artificial flavored tea. So sue me. You can dislike flavored tea but you don't get to yuck my yum. If you personally think these flavors are repulsive and I should change my tastes, kindly refrain from posting.

Genuinely. If there is a better brand where I can try comparable stuff that is higher quality or cheaper, I would LOVE to try it. But otherwise I think it's unfair to keep upvoting generic comments saying that you can do better, when it seems like you honestly can't.

I know some just got hidden and put right back where they were (or some other nearby church), but for the relics that did actually get permanently removed, what happened to them? Were they destroyed? Sold? (If so, to whom? Did it crash the market value for relics?) Were any relics ever repatriated during Mary I's reign or some later date?
