I am 25 and a doctor. My girlfriend is also 25 and a doctor. We both want to marry each other.

Last month, I told my parents that I love a girl and want to marry her. Her family knows about us for 2-3 years and they have no problem...

The issue started when my mother found out she is from another caste. Since then, her behavior has changed..

My father is a government employee and my mother is a housewife. They live in our village. Recently I visited there and many older people started telling my parents that I should marry only within our caste...

These people never cared about our life before, but now suddenly they have opinions.

I don’t understand why my parents care so much about society and other people more than my happiness.

I love my parents, but this situation is mentally exhausting.

How should I handle this?

TL;DR: I want to marry my girlfriend, but my parents changed after knowing she is from another caste and now care more about society than my happiness.
