Upgrading from NW-NC31 to MDR-EX255AP: How much of a sound quality jump should I expect?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently using my NW-S315 Walkman with the stock NW-NC31 noise-canceling earbuds. I’m thinking about switching to the MDR-EX255AP to see if I can get better audio quality.

Since the NC31 is a specialized noise-canceling model, I’m curious about a few things:

  1. Clarity & Soundstage: Will the EX255AP sound noticeably clearer or more "open" than the bundled NC31?
  2. The "AP" factor: Does the inline mic/remote on the EX255AP cause any issues with the S315, or does it work perfectly fine as a standard earphone?
  3. Is there a better choice? If you have any other recommendations for budget-friendly IEMs that pair well with the S-series Walkman and offer a significant step up in sound, I’d love to hear them!

I really value the portability of this setup, so I'm looking for something that sounds great but stays compact.

When do you think the next Sony Walkman will be released?

Hi everyone! I'm planning to buy a new Walkman, but the NW-A300 and ZX707 have been out for a few years now. Does anyone have any info or predictions on when Sony might announce the next generation? Should I wait or just buy the current model?

2018: The year NVIDIA stopped being "pro-consumer"?

The GTX 1080 Ti was a legend. It gave us massive performance at a reasonable price. Then 2018 hit, the RTX 2080 arrived with a huge price jump, and we’ve been stuck in this "premium" pricing hell ever since. It feels like NVIDIA's goodwill ended the moment they realized they could charge $1000+ for a GPU. What do you guys think?

Why does the 2020s feel so boring compared to the vibrant energy of the 2000s?

I’ve been thinking about how much culture has changed. The 2000s felt like the perfect balance of digital and analog, but now everything is just algorithms and social media. If you could go back to the 2000s, would you stay there forever? Or are there things about the 2020s that make you want to stay in the present?
