BA Geography students - what are you doing now?

I’m studying BA Geography currently and was wondering what people do afterwards.

Please feel free to share as much or as little information as you wish.

  • What you do for a job
  • How you got there and found that job
  • When you graduated
  • Where you attended

Thank you in advance :)

If you think all modern music is bad, please listen to Lana del Rey!

Hello 👋 19 year old here, hope I’m welcome :)

If you’re older and dislike modern music because of its themes or because it’s repetitive or for whatever reason, you may like Lana del Rey.

My dad who is in his 50s really likes her music, which is saying a lot as he hates most of the music I play!

Her music sounds like something that comes right out of the 60s and 70s, and a lot of her outfits, makeup and hair styles are inspired by these eras.

Her genres are mainly alternative pop and Americana.

My favourite songs which encompass this era:

Born to Die

National Anthem

Dark Paradise

Ultraviolence

Brooklyn Baby

Old Money

Love

Cinnamon Girl

How to disappear

Happiness is a butterfly

Say Yes To Heaven

Margaret

Let me know what you think :)

Tayla Lynn - granddaughter of Loretta Lynn

Hey everyone, I wanted to share some appreciation for a wonderful artist called Tayla Lynn, and if you recognise the surname, that’s cos she is the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn and the son of Ernie Lynn, who sometimes performed alongside Loretta!

Tayla’s aim was and still is to sing her grandmother’s songs and pay homage to her, whilst singing her own songs!

Tayla has been singing since the late 2000s, I believe, and there are some videos of her live performances from this era on YouTube. This is a video of her singing her original song Coal Dust in 2008: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Io1yAk-qwHU&list=RDIo1yAk-qwHU&start_radio=1&pp=ygUUQ29hbCBkdXN0IHRheWxhIGx5bm6gBwE%3D

She was also a part of the trio Stealing Angels in the early 2010s, who sadly don’t have any songs on Spotify, so if you want to listen to these, YouTube is the way to go!

In 2016, she released her EP entitled The Ranch, featuring her original songs including Coal Dust, and Muddy River which you can watch here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w4CuzYe_O54&list=RDw4CuzYe_O54&start_radio=1&pp=ygUWTXlkZHkgcml2ZXIgdGF5bGEgbHlubqAHAdIHCQlNCgGHKiGM7w%3D%3D (two of my favourites of hers) and a cover of her grandmother’s first single I’m a Honky Tonk Girl.

She has also released two albums, one in 2021 and one in 2025, singing some of Loretta’s most famous songs, including a duet with Loretta herself on It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels, and a duet with Loretta’s daughter Patsy on Coal Miner’s Daughter.

Not only this, Tayla is one half of the Twitty and Lynn duo, the other half being Conway Twitty’s grandson Tre Twitty. They performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song I‘m On Fire which you can watch here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5di0VwhgaDM&list=RD5di0VwhgaDM&start_radio=1&pp=ygUaSW0gb24gZmlyZSB0d2l0dHkgYW5kIGx5bm6gBwE%3D

I’m proud to say that I have been listening to Tayla since 2022, and I always look forward to new music released by her.

If you enjoy her music, please let me know :)

Will Deana Carter ever release a new album?

She’s one of my absolute favourites, but she hasn’t released an album since 2013 :(

Her first album, and her second one to a lesser extent, did well in the charts, particularly in the UK where I’m from, but her albums since haven’t charted as high.

She did a 25th anniversary edition of her first album which she released in 2021, featuring some renditions of her most popular songs featuring other artists.

Even though she still tours there’s hasn’t been any hint towards new music. Does anyone think Deana will make a return to the studio?

What duets would you love to see?

It’s a tale as old as time - country duet ballads. We’ve had Loretta Lynn and Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, Reba McEntire and Brooks and Dunn etc. More recently we have had a Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean duet.

A key album for me which solidified Reba McEntire as a singer of duets was the Reba: Duets album, which featured Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Vince Gill, amongst others.

What other duets would you like to see?

I’d like to see a Reba McEntire and Martina McBride duet, as they’re both powerhouses.

I think a Deana Carter and Dolly Parton duet would also be nice as they both have soft voices.
