Thoughts on Billy Ray Cyrus

I know his personal life has overshadowed his career and majority of people hate Achy Breaky Heart, but I do find his vocal ability and range very underrated. While he’s not your traditional country artist, I think he’s put out solid music. Some Gave All was a great album overall with “She’s Not Crying Anymore” and “Wher’m I Gonna Live” being my favorites. Even some of his stuff in the 2000s like “Read, Set, Don’t Go” and “Back to Tennessee” were very good.

What’s everyone else’s opinion?

Is it okay to attend a conservative country artists concert if you disagree with their views?

I’m going to see hank williams jr because I like his music but I highly disagree with his outspoken views on trump/conservatism. This raises the question (not even this specific scenario) what are the morals behind giving money to an artist you disagree with (who are outspoken about their views)? Is it not that deep?

1966: "...in the opinion of many of us Waylon Jennings is destined to become one of the greatest country singers..."

I like to buy random records from the dollar bin at my local record store. I know they write this kind of thing on all kinds of promos but it made me laugh a little. Sometimes I end up reading through Wikipedia to see how life turned out for the singers but I'm pretty sure this guy did in fact do all right for himself.

Artists with great catalogues

I was thinking about some artists that may have been very successful or only mildly successful at country radio, but nevertheless have great catalogues, with a lot of good material and albums you can listen to all the way through. One that comes to mind is Alan Jackson. His album Who I Am is fantastic and all of them have at least a couple of decent deep cuts on them (that's the only one I've listened to in entirety). Also, and I know he gets a lot of hate, but Jason Aldean's old albums have album tracks even better than his radio singles, especially his debut through at least My Kinda Party. Some of his newer ones, which are generally more pop/rock-oriented, are not as good, but most of them even have at least one or two good songs on them (i.e. Too Fast and the title track from Old Boots, New Dirt). Who are some others?

Dissertation Survey - Country Music Aesthetics and Authenticity

Hello everyone, I am a final year university student doing a dissertation on country music. I have a survey here about authenticity in country music. It takes only a couple of minutes to complete and would help me out immensely.

If you have any pointers or anything to add that may be relevant please let me know.

In honor of the legendary songwriter Don Schlitz's death, I want everybody to please listen to The Gambler by Kenny Rogers on Spotify or whatever you stream music on. Tell everyone you know, and even if you don't like it just listen once. Let's see if we can get it to hit the charts.

What duets would you love to see?

It’s a tale as old as time - country duet ballads. We’ve had Loretta Lynn and Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner, Reba McEntire and Brooks and Dunn etc. More recently we have had a Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean duet.

A key album for me which solidified Reba McEntire as a singer of duets was the Reba: Duets album, which featured Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Vince Gill, amongst others.

What other duets would you like to see?

I’d like to see a Reba McEntire and Martina McBride duet, as they’re both powerhouses.

I think a Deana Carter and Dolly Parton duet would also be nice as they both have soft voices.

Will Deana Carter ever release a new album?

She’s one of my absolute favourites, but she hasn’t released an album since 2013 :(

Her first album, and her second one to a lesser extent, did well in the charts, particularly in the UK where I’m from, but her albums since haven’t charted as high.

She did a 25th anniversary edition of her first album which she released in 2021, featuring some renditions of her most popular songs featuring other artists.

Even though she still tours there’s hasn’t been any hint towards new music. Does anyone think Deana will make a return to the studio?

Lonestar lyrics lol

Never noticed the lyrics said that maybe his lost love joined the Klan. Imagine if that was said today… then again there is no mention of a truck on dirt road in this song so it wouldn’t be in today’s lyrics.

New Band I found | Hannstead

Hello everyone, I just thought I would share a new band that I found based out of Arizona, they are called Hannstead. They have a new album out now, and I thought it was pretty good quality for an up and coming band. It is a country rock band mixed with some grunge. Found it to be a pretty cool sound. Here is the link to their new album on Spotify. Just thought I would share.

They've performed at some small venues in Arizona so they are a very new and up and coming band. This is their first album.
