JU for non bengalis

Asking for a friend here.

Unfortunately he can't get into isi or cmi for maths. He doesn't have a lot of options, He's either gonna have to go to some mid delhi university college for it or sm other central university.

JU does seem to have better and a more rigorous curriculum and i do think it's better than du and stuff for maths.

But he is not bengali and doesn't understand the language. Should he still consider it.

Are russian universities worth it for international students?

Speaking specifically about mathematics, I know the Soviets were some of the best mathematicians in the world.

I'm personally very interested in the work of Alexander Gaifullin, but with everything going on in Russia nowadays, would it still make sense for an international student to apply especially considering I don’t know or understand Russian, and that with my grades, also considering my grade i have a very good chance of getting into places like Imperial, Oxford, LSE, etc.

Are there only maths electives at cmi ? :(

Sorry for polluting the sub

Talking about bsc, on the website when I looked at the electives offered they were only maths related.

Are there no electives on things like Earth sciences, computational biology, economics etc etc?

Quant hiring scene in India

Data was compiled by me , the graph is made by claude

(I did round off the numbers for the top tier since a lot of peeps from such places weren't on LinkedIn).

Risk and model validation roles are NOT counted , only hedge funds , hfts, bb and prop shops

And only qd/ qr/qt/sde roles

I avoided the suspicious profiles. Will mention the subject and degree level breakdown in another post later.

Hopefully people realise that quant isn't the only high paying industry lol.

PS: Data is extremely flawed because of the lack of presence of quants on LinkedIn. The actual numbers especially for IITs and BITS are significantly higher

Certain colleges where hirings do happen but I couldn't find much on LinkedIn include BITS hyderabad and goa, IIT Hyderabad and BHU

How to change my sleep schedule to something similar to those of healthy humans?

So long story short, I have been preparing for some exam for almost 4+ years now. In the last 2 ish years my sleep schedule has become terrible.

I sleep at 3-4 am and wake up between 7 and 8 am forcefully. So I'm basically surviving on 3-4 hours of sleep for almost 2 years now.

Now that all my exams and everything is over, i tried fixing my sleep schedule (sleeping at 10 waking at 6/7) but I've failed miserably, I can't sleep at 10 pm at all like I'll just spin around my bed for hours.

The only day I did manage to sleep at 10 , I proceeded to wake up at 2 am which doesn't help.

So yeah tips would be appreciated

Are things that bad over there?

Seniors please help

I was considering cmi due to inoi qualification, now I'm having second thoughts

Another question, although I'm myself not interested in quant and stuff, I still find it weird when CMI isn't mentioned as an eligible school for things like iicpc quantfest or goldman Sachs quant hackathon when ISIk is

What could be the reason

How does direct admission via olympiads work?

So for context I've been a part of ioitc and have a silver in INOI, thus were wondering can I bypass the admission exam?

Also even though I qualified inoi, can I choose maths and physics as my major?

And lastly does CMI have an interview for those who get in via olympiads?

And will I be eligible for the shriram scholarship (or whatever it's called) ?

So for context I have a silver in inoi and have attended the camp as well.

This year I tried bio oly and failed spectacularly lol

I'm interested in metallurgy (yes metallurgy).

I've also considered ocean engineering but I'm not too sure what exactly does it cover. If it's more on the mineral, mining and mapping side of things I'll prefer it over metallurgy

Regardless here are my questions

When do applications open , how to apply and how the final selection happens.

How is the department? How good are the research opportunities?

Also how hard is it to get a PhD in geophysics/dynamics/material modelling and adjoined fields after IITM .

Alternatively I've considered cmi maths and physics and taking all the geology related electives, since I'm interested in a very specific branch of geology which I can't really find in the country.

(Ignore the last 3 questions I directly copied this from my post on IITM subreddit)

Like I don't see any isi quants (hft, hedge fund)on LinkedIn, the brochure does mention some firms but the packages don't support it.

But for some reason everyone I see thinks hfts hire from isi

Kinda sad to see a research institute becoming more and more industry focused

Alumnis please share your thoughts

In my final year of high school, I plan to major in mathematics in the upcoming year.

I really enjoy math, on the other hand I hate every accounting class I sit in.

Thus I'm wondering if actuarial sciences are a good career path for me.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated asw
