I've started to realise how much it's important to work

I (21M) just had a trip with my friend, and I saw him working a little on his phone to earn a few bucks. I ignored it at first, thinking I’d get a good job with the degree I’m pursuing right now. But gradually, when I saw our expenses rising so much, we started using public transport, where we saw frustrated people packed in like garbage. The constant pushing and crowding around us really broke me apart.

The exact moment it hit me was when I was returning to my city alone and decided to rest at a bus stop for a while. Within just 15 minutes, I saw 20–30 buses packed to the brim. It didn’t matter whether they were men or women everyone was being shoved around like garbage, and it affected me deeply.

I don’t want my family to suffer like this. I don’t want to spend my life struggling in overcrowded public transport. I even overheard people talking badly about us and cursing when we asked for a seat. Deep down, it made me feel really depressed, realizing that if I don’t earn well or work hard enough, everything could be lost for the people I’m living with and care about..

Hi, I was traveling with my girlfriend from Vadapalani to Anna Nagar. When the train arrived, it was extremely crowded, and we were far from the ladies’ coach because of the rush. So we stepped into the nearest coach, and I was holding my girlfriend so she wouldn’t fall onto someone.

After a couple of minutes, a man around 55–65 years old tapped me on the shoulder. He looked very furious and said, “This is a public place.” I replied, “What’s the problem? I’m just holding her so she doesn’t fall.” Then he said, “Shut up.”

This incident disturbed me a lot because there was no PDA involved at all I was just making sure she was safe. It keeps coming back to my mind. Was it because of our looks since we are North Indians, or is it actually considered offensive in Chennai to hold someone of the opposite gender in public?

So I had a train, so I took the metro from Lucknow University. There I saw a group of policemen howling and being loud in the metro. They also had a stop at Charbagh, so I didn’t think much of it. I got to the station, found my coach, and settled in. Then these same policemen got into my coach (3rd AC), obviously without tickets. They probably recognized me from the metro and started joking ‘kya kare, let jayein? Ek ghante ka safar hai, aap logon ko toh Mumbai,Delhi jana hai’ and I just said okay (I am an idiot) Then one of them started eating bhelpuri on another seat and making it dirty, and the guy sitting on my SU (my seat, I’m on SL) is talking loudly on the phone while literally dropping bhujiya from his mouth. And this guy is a policeman… seriously? These people are trash. Sitting in UP trains is such a bad experience. I’m just waiting for his one hour to get over.
