Increasing from starter 0.25mg to .5mg or wait?

So I'm due to take my 5th compounded semaglutide shot this upcoming Wednesday and am supposed to be increasing from 0.25mg to 0.5mg, but I'm down 13 lbs, don't have any food noise, and am still dealing with nausea and food aversion on the current dose.

For those of you that have gone through this, what do you recommend? What worked for you? Do I go slow and steady and stay here until I plateau or do I bite the bullet and go ahead and up the dose?

And before anyone tells me to check with my provider, I've already messaged them on the portal and waiting for a response. Just wanted to hear from others who have been there!

In hopes of helping others with PCOS that are struggling with making the difficult decision of trying a GLP-1, I wanted to offer up a glance at my personal experience. I know that things are different for everyone, but I enjoyed reading things like this when I was doing my research as well and found it helpful.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 17 when my mom took me to a gyno because I was closing in on 18 and had never even had my first period. I thought I was lucky. Turned out it was PCOS. 🙃 They immediately put me on birth control and the cycles started the very next month. I stayed on birth control for the next eight years, really didn't have any issues. When my husband and I started trying for babies is when things really popped off. Getting off birth control threw my body for a major loop. I started growing facial hair, got cystic acne, my periods disappeared, and weight started ticking up from 160ish to 200lbs in the first year alone. And getting pregnant took 11 months due to no ovulation.

Fast forward two kids and another few years later, I weighed in at 224 lbs at only 5'2". At a BMI slightly over 40, I was miserable. I'd tried EVERYTHING. No matter how little I ate, how much I moved my body, the weight would not budge. I've tried keto, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, SlimFast, even a strict 1,200 calorie budget with daily cardio. Nothing worked. I've hovered from 220-225 lbs since 2019. Until 2026!

I was approved for a GLP-1, Metformin, and Wellbutrin all in the same doctor visit on 4/4/26. I started the Wellbutrin and Metformin on 4/7 and the semaglutide one week later on 4/15. In the first month on these three, I've gone from 222lbs to 208lbs. I never feel hungry. I'm full after just a couple bites of food. The only side effects I've had are mild constipation, a headache or two, and a little upset tummy or gas if I eat something greasy or high fat. I feel now that it's actually attainable to reach a healthy weight and not be ashamed of how I look.

I plan to continue on the .25mg starter dose of my semaglutide until I'm no longer losing weight before increasing to .5. I'm also staying at the starter doses of 150mg Wellbutrin and 500mg Metformin at this time. The current cocktail seems to be working very well and with few issues and I don't want to rock the boat by moving too quickly.

So for anyone on the fence, there is hope for those of us with PCOS! It's absolutely worth it.
