Feeling icky after overhearing a conversation

So I was at an all girls gathering with my mom and her friends along with their daughters and typically the older women hang out in their own area while us younger girls go do our own thing. This time around they were downstairs while we were upstairs. Anyways I started heading downstairs to grab a drink when I overheard the women gossiping about US specifically.

They were basically comparing their unmarried daughters at this gathering saying things like “Oh [name] knows how to cook desi food now, she’s 100% ready to be a wife” or “[Other name] should grow out her hair if she wants to get married, she looks too boyish” and it was this whole discussion on the things us girls needs to do to get married ASAP. I heard my own mom say that I need to lose weight to get married, which wasn’t surprising (she’s my biggest hater fr) but still stung nonetheless. Also some of the comments were highkey gross like one auntie was like “[Name] is very curvy and has fair skin, she’ll have no trouble getting married since that’s what all men seek” 🤮

I ended up just standing at the stairs for like 5-10 minutes just listening before I actually grabbed my drink lol. I just feel super icky now because we were literally being talked about like someone determining the value of their potential purchase. I wish so many women didn’t equate our worth to having the traits that are the most pleasing to men…

ANA Crowne Plaza Narita

Anyone have any experience with this hotel? We have a 9 hour layover at NRT and just want to rest at a hotel instead of trying to explore Tokyo, since it would take 1.5 hours each way and we need to be at the airport 2-3 hours early for an international flight, so we didn’t see the point. Hopefully this hotel is decent as I haven’t had the best experiences with Crowne Plazas in the past.

Montana hotels

Really taken aback by how expensive every hotel in this state is, wasn’t expecting to see $300/night for a basic HIE. It’s like this pretty much year-round except in the dead of winter (for obvious reasons). I guess I just wasn't expecting this state to be so insanely expensive for tourists, when I could find better rates in surrounding states easily. It certainly doesn’t help that there are so few IHG hotels in Montana either.

I wish these deals would apply to more countries

I was looking at Hong Kong hotels because I have a 24 hour layover there, and this deal is pretty sweet especially if you’re staying at a higher-end hotel. Looks like it’s restricted to just China and countries China claims to own though, so not very useful for my travel plans unfortunately. Much like the Stay 3 Pay 2 deal, these sales seem to heavily favor Asian-Pacific countries.

Insane deal

I have been planning a trip to Thailand and just saw this sale. The fact that it‘s fully refundable AND comes with breakfast for 2 is insane. I had already booked this exact room with breakfast a month ago for ~$950 USD and now it costs under $700 USD and I can cancel 3 days prior to arrival rather than 30 days (Advance Saver rate)!!! So excited!!!

New Orleans: InterContinental or Kimpton?

I’m Ambassador but the IC looks so dated that I’m leaning towards the Kimpton despite my status. Just wondering what others have to say, thanks!

Atlanta recommendations?

I’m Platinum Ambassador so while the Intercontinental would be nice, it’s also far from midtown/downtown which isn’t ideal since I do want to be able to walk around and explore. However I’m wondering if any of the other properties are actually worth losing out on Ambassador perks or not. Would appreciate some insights into the best options out of this list!

Intercontinentals in Minneapolis

What is even the point of the IC St Paul Riverfront? It’s literally a 3 star hotel, how is it even allowed to be called an IC? I’m so confused by its existence, when theres already another IC in the city that’s so much better
