Adding batting to jacket?

I have just put together the bodice and sleeves of a jacket I'm making and now thinking about the lining, batting and collar.

I'm thinking that I need to attach the batting on to the lining sewing all the way round each part, but what is confusing me, is sewing the hems through both the lining and the batting; will that not give me a fat lumpy seam and create problems at the collar? Its only 2 oz batting btw.

I can't find any tutorials on this, quilted jackets keep coming up instead.

Fabric dying question

I bought some Dylon Ocean Blue dye for the collar and other bits of a grey jacket I'm making. When I first put the fabric in the dye bath, I realised that the colour was more purple than the primary blue image on the sachet, and to my knowledge the Ocean is rarely purple in hue. I really thought it would come out as a mauve colour and was pretty annoyed about it. Now it is washed and drying the red aspect of the dye colour seems to have disappeared. Is this to be expected in blue dyes in general unless they are leaning toward turquoise?

I am looking for a darker cold grey finish btw not looking for a strong blue.

Glasses revamped

I bought these glasses on line, they came today. Getting the right bridge size for my massive nose, is so limiting that I decided to buy the ones I wanted and change the bridge size myself. I sawed through the bridge with a jewellery saw and super glued a bit of plastic sleeve from computer lead of some sort, on each bridge part leaving a few millimetre gap between them. It turned out a bit wobbly so I forced a sewing pin into the sleeve. Can't believe it worked and I didn't damage the lenses doing it!

Fake coke question

I have IBS, diverticulosis and a hiatus hernia. Drinking a lot of fluid is essential for my stomach to work, so atm I'm drinking cheap coke by the gallon, I make my own ginger cordial and add that to make it more palatable.

Is this bad for me, like has it got nasty chemicals that are doing more harm than good?

The Homemade Suit

A few days ago, I found myself tailoring a suit out of old curtains that I acquired in a thrift shop. The fabric was a beige ticking with thin dark blue and maroon stripe running through it. I’m not normally of a narcissistic or flamboyant character; I just happened to take a pleasure in the abstract aesthetics of this curtain fabric and became drawn to the idea of wearing it. I cannot, therefore, say that it came as shock to me when I was accosted by a group of teens whilst walking my deaf and blind in one eye cat on its leash in the park as this ensemble was quite loud in appearance, but I can most definitely say that I was far from ready when a pack of dogs, ignoring my cat, took a great and somewhat aggressive interest in my own person. Lying on my back now in a hospital ward with my lower arms, thighs and ankles bandaged up and in a great deal of pain, I realise I should have washed the fabric before sewing it up; on reception to the unit a nurse had, with a wrinkled up nose and look of disgust on her face, explained to me that my garments stank of casseroled tripe and onions, and now taking in the implications of this remark, the full consequences of this fatal error are now sinking in!

Squash and courgette plants died?

I have hardened off squash and courgette plants and planted about half of them. The ones still in pots have been outside and doing well for a about a week or so. I got there this afternoon and found all the ones in pots to be just about dead, leaves totally dark and wilted, whilst all of them in the ground are fine. I'm in south east, and all though its been a bit chilly, I am sure it wasn't cold enough for this reaction! Do plants in pots suffer more than ones in the ground? I'm so mad about it I'm thinking maybe someone sprayed them with something nasty :(

Vegan Mayo with sweetcorn water; nice and ugly!

I just added the water from a tin of sweetcorn to my vegan mayo, it tastes great!

I get it this ugly by using chia seeds to help thicken it.

I followed some on line instructions on growing leeks from seed and their ones stood up strong and vertical. Mine looked like they didn't want life from the first sign of them coming up. Used John Innes potting compost, and used seeds I ordered from eBay. They have been as they look now for about two weeks; nothing happening!

I'm taking my young plants out of the polytunnel each day and putting them back at dusk to harden them off. Half are courgettes and the others are butternut squash. I wasn't thinking and just took them out willy nilly, now I can't tell the difference. The courgettes seem to have a serrated leaf, its only now I realise they are not round as I expected. They all look the same!

I need to know as I have beds that are adjacent to another plot holder and I don't want the long Butternut trailers encroaching on his beds. Anyone know how I can tell them apart, Googled it, but it just tells me courgettes are round leaf which is not always the case,

I have a basic bodice block that when used for a creating a jacket fits pretty well with just lining. My question is how much bigger should I make the side seam of the pattern if I need the jacket large enough to accept 4 oz batting? If I have this one measurement I can workout the increase elsewhere in the pattern.

I'm about to start working on a jacket using my basic bodice block and need to understand how to make the collar which I know little about. I checked the names of collar types so I could do some searches and the name given to the type I want seems to only have the designation of classic shirt collar. Unfortunately, using this name combined with jacket is giving me no results.

So my questions are 1. is there a better name for a jacket collar that is like the classic shirt collar?

and 2. If no, can I just follow patterns and tutorials for making a shirt collar or will I run into difficulties?

My fabric is medium weight polyester with a thread count of 250

I have been vegan for about 8 years and just realised that I am still caught up in my old carnivorous cooking habits when it comes to stock for curry and Bolognaise type meals. I am in the UK and have been using meat free Oxo stock cubes throughout my 8 years. Unfortunately, the store where I used to buy them has stopped selling them and in order to get them now I have to make a 6 mile trip by bus to a store I don't use for anything else and is nowhere near where I do my normal shopping.

What do other people use in what are traditionally meat dishes where stock is concerned? I am using Marmite, vegetable stock cube and soya sauce for my curry today, but it seems a bit lacking.

I'm retired 66 year old and have two special needs cats that have behaviour problems. They need my attention in the evening and I don't end up winding down to sleep until 1 or 2am. At about 8am they are clawing at me at screeching for me to get up. I also have an allotment garden that I work on and creative projects, both of which tire me out. Due to these things I often get some sleep in the day time, but when I wake up from a couple of hours in the afternoon, I feel like crap for hours. Why do I feel bad? Am I lacking vitamins or minerals or something?
