Slim Outdoor Level 2 Charger Recommendations?

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a 2023 Kia Niro EV, which is my first electric car! I am using Level 1 charging right now but going to get a Level 2 charger installed soon.

I am reading and watching the reviews, but one things I’m trying to get a sense of is how far each connector & holster sticks out from the wall, and I’m struggling with this a bit because it doesn’t seem to be a point that gets addressed. I am installing on the side of my house, and my driveway runs along the side with not a ton of extra width, so I’m looking for something with a flat profile to the wall.

From what I can tell, the Charge Point Level 2 has the lowest profile connector. However, I’m a little concerned it is only NEMA 3 rated, and there seem to be complaints about customer service.

So my question is, is the Charge Point that much flatter to the wall than other chargers? It looks like the Eviqo has a swivel to make it flatter to the wall too? Any other recommendations?

As an aside, I don’t care that much about app capabilities, although I probably need to adjust the max output since Kia Niro is a slightly older platform and I think does best on 32 amps (I don’t need extra super fast level 2 charging, just something better than level 1, but I don’t want to install a level 2 charger that already feels obsolete in case we get a second/ different EV in the future.)

Thanks!

Hi All, new to the Kia Niro EV… I just got a 2023 Wave trim with the heat pump. I was exploring the battery charging last night, and I saw that there is a setting to flag on and off the batter preconditioning. I watched a YouTube video about this, but they didn’t really go into detail on when this should be turned on, other than in cold temperatures.
My question is, is this toggle something I should turn on all the time, just in certain temperatures, prior to charging, etc? It’s semi-warm where I live right now, so I’m not sure if I should have turned this on before charging last night (Level 1 only at the moment, super slow at 12amps)
Any resources are appreciated, thanks!

Picked up this 2023 CPO Kia Niro EV in the Wave trim yesterday. 21k miles, not too shabby. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the grey panel at first, but it has already really grown on me!
I posted a question about highway driving but found out firsthand, because I ended up getting this at a dealer that was about 120 miles away 😬 It seems like range estimates dipped a little bit when I drove around 75mph, but nothing horrible. Granted, most of my drive was a traffic hellscape, and it was probably the warmest day of the year so far. But overall, the drive was so smooth!
I just purchased a wireless CarPlay adaptor dongle, and I also purchased a Level 1 charger (thought there was one in a little case in the trunk but that was the V2L adaptor 🤦🏼‍♀️) Getting quotes on a Level 2 install. Anything else to consider?
In sum, really loving it so far, and the family likes it a lot too! Feel free to drop any tips or things you wish you knew… this is my first EV so, despite doing a lot of research beforehand, I feel more clueless now that it’s in my driveway 🥴

Hi Everyone,

I’m close to pulling the trigger on a car in MD. I live in PA, and I have a car I would like to trade it in. I assume taxes will be easy for them to apply. I’m also financing, but I don’t think that makes a difference.

For title and registration, will they be able to set it up so I can keep my license plate? Or do they give me something temporary and then I can transfer it later?

Also, do I need to get it inspected one I get the car back to PA? I am looking to purchase a CPO from a dealer, so I assume there is knowledge to set all this up, but just wanted to get some additional thoughts.

Hi Everyone,
I’ve been lightly looking at EVs for the past year or so, but I’m getting serious about purchase.
I test drove a Niro EV last night and really enjoyed it! There was really nothing I disliked. I originally wanted AWD and maybe more HP, but it seemed very peppy and the battery heaviness made it feel connected on the road.
I only drove on regular streets for the test drive, but I wanted to check with owners how everyone felt on highway drives? I will use mainly around town, but usually have a longer highway drive like once a month and I want to make sure whatever I get feels smooth and safe on the highway.
Any other cons to this vehicle? I feel like other EVs always have some sort of weird dealbreaker, but nothing seemed bad about this one (tried the Wave, so many bells and whistles) Thanks!
