Will factory resetting my laptop after downloading a chrome extension that ended up being fake wipe and potential viruses?
Last week I had an assignment for my class where I also had to provide the AI chat log that used (marketing report that uses ai) . Our professor didn’t instruct us on how we could provide the chat logs to show how we made our marketing advertisement. She just said please provide the logs so I went online searching for some sort of Google Gemini chat log downloader or something like that. I came across a blog that ranked AI chat log exporters And one of them was a Google Chrome extension, so I clicked on it and it looked like there were solid reviews, and I thought it was legit. Anyways, I download the Google Chrome extension and I run it and then gets added to my computer and every time I want to click into it to try to import my Google Gemini log it never started up. Anyways, I thought that it was weird so I went in and manually removed the Google Chrome extension and made sure to delete the extension.
When I googled “chrome extension won’t pop up and computer is now slow” - advised to immediately remove the extension. However, even after doing so my computer has started to become a bit laggy. And I had just purchased this laptop back in January. It’s an Asus laptop. Is there a possibility that this extension was some sort of back door virus?
