Claude AI: not a trustable working partner.

https://preview.redd.it/1e0da0436q1h1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=f525e59085210bb862a56866018f408eb898ccf9

My main criticism of Claude is the aggressive and unclear usage limits.

I have a Pro plan and assumed I would be on the safe side for professional usage, as I generally am with ChatGPT. Instead, several times I was blocked in the middle of real work sessions without any meaningful warning beforehand. When you use AI professionally, this is extremely disruptive.

The biggest problem is not even the existence of limits, every AI provider has limits. The real issue is the user experience around them.

The warning system feels vague, inconsistent and difficult to anticipate properly. You never really know:

* how much usage you have left,

* what exactly triggered the limitation,

* whether the limit is hourly, daily or temporary,

* or whether a long working session is suddenly going to be interrupted.

Looks like a very unfair strategy....For professional users working on complex projects, this creates constant uncertainty and breaks workflow continuity. A professional tool should provide clear remaining quota visibilit and transparent explanations.

Right now, using Claude sometimes feels like driving a car with a fuel gauge that randomly disappears.

Fortunately, I now systematically keep ChatGPT as a backup solution, because unlike Claude, it has never suddenly abandoned me in the middle of a critical work session, even if its document-handling capabilities are currently less advanced in some areas.

And no, I am not paid to say this...

Spent the last weeks fine-tuning my Open Gate workflow.

– S5IIX Open Gate

– external synced audio (DJI / Zoom workflow)

– Final Cut Pro sync clips

– heavy editorial reframing in a 16:9 timeline

Interesting discovery: FCP sync clips completely changed the spatial behaviour of my footage. “Fill” stopped behaving consistently, and sync clips seemed to inherit a different raster/container interpretation. At first I thought something was broken. Then I stopped caring about percentages and looked at the actual image.

Some shots ended up at 300%+ scale after sync/reframe… and still looked surprisingly organic thanks to the Open Gate source. That was my “aha” moment :)

Open Gate is no longer just about vertical delivery. It’s becoming a new editorial language. My way of shooting has completely changed because of it. I no longer think only about the final framing on location. I know post-production will become part of the writing itself.

The timeline becomes the "second camera movement".

-> Reframing becomes narrative rhythm.

-> A close-up can emerge later.

-> A vertical composition can be discovered afterwards.

For documentary work especially, this changes everything. I’m starting to see Open Gate less as a feature… and more as a different relationship between shooting and editing.

As a former "Betacam" TV reporter, I must admit this feels like a real disruption. Maybe even more profound than the transition from film to video itself.

Because this is no longer really about technology. It’s about a new audiovisual language.

Curious if other doc shooters experienced the same shift.

DS-KIS613-S kit (DS-KH8380-WTE1 + DS-KV6114-MWBE1), bought online (no installer for small projects). Impossible to access recordings or door station live remotely.

Only workaround: ~€8/month Hik-Connect cloud.

Marketed as “video recording & playback”, but playback is local only. Months contacting Hikvision (HQ, France, distributors) → no clear technical answer, mostly ignored. This is not a config issue, but a gap between advertised features and actual behavior. Any real technical explanation welcome.

Lumix menus are insanely powerful… but they can kill your focus. I’ve been working a lot with my S5IIX lately. And honestly, I’m starting to see the downside of all that flexibility.

You go into the menu to tweak AF…

→ 10 parameters later

You refine your image profile…

→ now you're adjusting gamma, NR, sharpness, color

You set up C1 / C2 / C3…

→ suddenly you're building systems instead of shooting

And the worst part ?You feel productive. But you’re not focused enough on your content.I caught myself spending way too much time “optimizing” instead of actually filming. At some point, the camera becomes the subject.

Not what’s in front of it. Now I’m forcing myself to lock things down:

– 1 or 2 configs max

– minimal tweaks on set

– focus back on framing, light, timing

The goal isn’t to have the perfect setup. The goal is to capture something real.

Curious if others hit that point with Lumix (or other systems) ?

I used to leave positive reviews for \*\*MPB\*\* because my past experiences were fine. Unfortunately my latest purchase was very different. I received a tripod that was in a completely unusable condition. It took about 30 seconds to realise it clearly belonged in the bin.

For a product sold as \*“Good condition”\*, any minimal inspection should have caught this immediately. To be fair, the support team initially responded quickly and acknowledged the issue. They even mentioned a compensation gesture. I genuinely believed the situation had been resolved and even updated my Trustpilot review accordingly. However, they later stepped back from that commitment without explanation.

Has anyone else noticed similar issues recently?

Hikvision villa kit: NOT "built to last" — forces ongoing €8/month subscription or basic features don't work. €300 upfront becomes €780 over 5 years.

I bought what was marketed as a "complete" home security kit: DS-KV6114 door station + DS-KH9320 indoor monitor. Everything works locally, but remote access via 4G requires mandatory €8/month cloud subscription.

THE TRAP:

- Standalone Hikvision IP cameras: FREE cloud access (same infrastructure)

- Villa kit: MANDATORY PAID subscription

- Documentation: Non-existent/vague (AI-generated marketing only)

- Support: Zero. Hikvision ignores direct inquiries

- Distributors: Incompetent. They admit "we don't know how it works"

- Return window: You discover the trap AFTER 14-day return period expires (spent 2 weeks troubleshooting)

REAL COST:

- Kit: €300

- Cloud subscription: €8/month × 60 months = €480

- TOTAL: €780 for what should have been a one-time purchase

This isn't "built to last" — it's "built to force ongoing payments." Same Hikvision cloud servers, different price depending on product line = deliberate vendor lock-in.

6.7K Redditors confirmed: this is systematic predatory design.

I bought a Hikvision villa kit (door station + indoor monitor). Works locally, but here’s the predatory design:
The trap:
• My door station from their “complete kit” = LOCKED. Must pay €8/month or no 4G access

Why ? Because the door station depends on the indoor monitor, which has NO native cloud access. This is by design, not accident.

The evidence it’s intentional:
• Forums (IP Cam Talk, AVForums, Whirlpool) show hundreds of identical complaints since 2019
• Zero fixes in 6 years
• Hikvision support: nonexistent
• Documentation: vague lies by omission
• My supplier admitted “we don’t know how it works”
The real business model:
1. Sell cheap (€300 kit) to get market share
2. Lock users into proprietary ecosystem (no interoperability)
3. Force subscription (€8/month = €480 over 5 years)
4. Zero support to keep costs down
5. Repeat with millions of customers

**I think Europe is deliberately targeted —> language barriers, poor support accountability, and users who just want something to work.**
**This isn’t a limitation. This is planned obsolescence via software. A predatory go to market.**
**Has anyone else discovered this too late ?**

I have a Hikvision villa kit (door station + indoor monitor, all PoE). Works locally ✓. Works on 4G ✗ unless I pay.
Here’s the weird part: I also have standalone Hikvision IP cameras elsewhere. Free cloud access via Hik-Connect. Zero subscription.
Same Hikvision cloud. Same servers. Same infrastructure.

But my door station ? Locked. I’m forced to pay ~€8/month just to access my recordings on 4G.
Why ? Because the door station depends on the indoor monitor which has NO native cloud access. It’s deliberate design.

I searched forums (IP Cam Talk, AVForums, Whirlpool): hundreds of identical posts since 2019. Zero Hikvision response. Zero fix in 6 years.
This isn’t a bug. It’s a strategy: sell cheap (€300), lock users in, force cloud subscription (€8/month × 60 months = captivity).
Hikvision support? Nonexistent. Documentation? Vague. Product sheet? Lies by omission.

I think the European market is specifically targeted by these predatory tactics. We’re dealing with poor support, language barriers, and no local accountability. Easy prey.

Shooting interviews on a Lumix S5IIX (tripod, controlled light, solo operator).

Tried V-Log seriously, but:

– Base ISO 640 feels too high indoors with a solid lighting set-up

– Forces me to stop down more than I want

– Don’t want to use ND inside

– Pana LUT in FCPX not convincing (to my eye)

– Overall more work, no clear benefit for my use

Getting better results with Cine profile + 50mm f/2.2 + AF-C (slowed). Am I missing something about LOG, or is it just not worth it for this kind of setup ? Thank you for your feeback.
