It looks muddy. I tilt the paper and use big flat brushes, but I still haven’t quite figured out the technique yet. By the third layer it started getting muddy/overworked. Do you think it might have lost some luminosity?.................................................................se ve lodoso ,inclino el papel y uso brochas planas y grandes pero no le pillo aun la tecnica , a la tercera capa se embarró ¿ habra perdido luminosidad?

Hello! My name is Micelina.

I’m just beginning my journey into illustration, and I wanted to share some of my practice from this week. I’ve been creating drawings to visually imagine the world I created in my books.

In it, I portray different peoples of folkloric little beings inspired by stories and traditions from many parts of the world, including classic creatures such as gnomes, leprechauns ( like the last ilustration) , nisse, domovoi, as well as other folkloric spirits.

I also want to give a leading role to beings rooted in Latin American culture, with the hope of continuing to enrich the imagery of fae beings through different geographic perspectives, and to keep nurturing this fantastic bestiary — and the shared concept of nature spirits — that so many cultures around the world have in common.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be working on South American field spirits , especially those from Chilean and Argentine folklore, represented in these images. Soon after, I’ll also be exploring the concept of chaneques, elemental spirits belonging to Mexican tradition.

I’ll be sharing my process with this community as I go. If anyone would like to support my work, I’m on Instagram as micelina.art. I’m just starting out, and my community is very small (and by very small, I mean zero followers haha), but I’d love to slowly grow it little by little.

¡Hola! Soy Micelina.

Estoy recién comenzando a incursionar en la ilustración y vengo a compartir mi práctica de esta semana. Estoy realizando dibujos para imaginar visualmente el mundo que creé en mis libros.

En él represento diferentes pueblos de duendes descendientes de cuentos y tradiciones folclóricas de distintas partes del mundo, donde pienso incluir criaturas clásicas como gnomos, leprechauns, nisse, domovoi, además de otros duendes folclóricos.

También quiero dar protagonismo a seres pertenecientes a la cultura latinoamericana, con el afán de seguir nutriendo el imaginario de los seres feéricos desde otras perspectivas geográficas, y seguir alimentando este bestiario fantástico que muchas culturas compartimos alrededor del mundo, así como el concepto de estos espíritus de la naturaleza.

Estas semanas estaré trabajando en duendes de la cultura suramericana, especialmente de Chile y Argentina: duendes de campo representados en estas imágenes. Y dentro de poco estaré trabajando con el concepto de los chaneques, duendes elementales pertenecientes a la cultura mexicana.

Estaré publicando en esta comunidad mis procesos. Si a alguien le interesa apoyarme, estoy en Instagram como micelina.art. Recién estoy comenzando, tengo una comunidad muy pequeña ( y por muy pequeña me refiero a cero jajaja) y me gustaría ir ampliándola poco a poco.

Hello, my name is Micelina.

I’m looking for a community where I can share my artistic progress, receive constructive feedback, and learn from people with more experience.

I recently finished writing the third volume of my novel. At the moment, I only have one beta reader, but I’ve been told several times that my story is “crying out to be illustrated,” and that inspired me to try giving my project a visual form.

However, I have no formal art education and no professional illustration experience. I’ve drawn on and off throughout my life, more as a hobby than as a disciplined practice, and honestly, I’m still not sure whether my skills are strong enough to illustrate my own work—or even develop it into a graphic novel.

That is why I’m here: seeking guidance, advice, and hopefully a respectful community that can accompany me as I grow.

I would love to know what you think of my drawings:
What skill level do you think I currently have?
What areas do you believe I should focus on improving?

Many of the pieces I share were created using references from Pinterest and magazine cutouts, because I still struggle with building scenes completely from scratch—especially when it comes to composition and visual layout. It’s something I’m actively working on so I can move my project forward.

I work mainly in traditional art. I’ve also been told that my story could potentially be adapted into a webtoon format, but I’m unsure whether my drawing style would be suitable for that medium.

So I would sincerely appreciate your honest opinions, insights, and any advice you may have to offer based on your experience and knowledge.

Hola, mi nombre es Micelina.

Estoy en busca de una comunidad donde pueda compartir mi progreso artístico, recibir críticas constructivas y aprender de personas con más experiencia.

Hace poco terminé de escribir el tercer tomo de mi novela. Por ahora solo cuento con un lector beta, pero me han comentado varias veces que mi historia “pide a gritos ser ilustrada”, y eso despertó en mí el deseo de intentar darle forma visual a mi proyecto.

Sin embargo, no tengo estudios formales en arte ni experiencia ilustrando profesionalmente. He dibujado de manera esporádica a lo largo de mi vida, más como hobby que como disciplina, y sinceramente aún no estoy segura de si mis capacidades son suficientes para ilustrar mi propia obra o incluso desarrollar una novela gráfica.

Por eso vengo en busca de orientación, consejos y, ojalá, una comunidad respetuosa que pueda acompañarme en este proceso de crecimiento.

Me gustaría saber qué opinan de mis dibujos:
¿qué nivel creen que tengo actualmente?
¿En qué áreas creen que debería enfocarme para mejorar?

Muchos de los trabajos que comparto han sido realizados usando referencias de Pinterest y recortes de revistas, ya que todavía tengo dificultades para construir escenas completamente desde cero, especialmente en composición y maquetación visual. Es algo en lo que estoy trabajando con dedicación para poder sacar adelante mi proyecto.

Trabajo principalmente con arte tradicional. También me han sugerido adaptar mi historia al formato webtoon, pero no sé si mi estilo de dibujo sería compatible con ese medio.

Por eso quisiera pedirles, desde su experiencia y conocimientos, sus opiniones sinceras y cualquier consejo que puedan darme. Realmente lo valoraría mucho.
