Helldivers should be careful when entering abandoned vehicles on the Automaton front.
I'd say it's quite underrated in general against bugs. But against Spore Strain specifically it might be a meta.
It has infinite ammo which is important since Spore Strain's spawn rate is absolutely cracked. But the biggest benefit is it sets bugs on fire instantly. If you even accidentally touch a Scavenger or a Hunter with the beam, they will 100% die from fire DOT. Warriors may require a half a second longer beaming for them to die from fire, but in 80% of times they are doomed as well. Also because it has a laser damage instead of ballistic it doesn't trigger Spore bug's explosion upon death that can also slow you down. You can easily delete a whole patrol from a safe distance with a single charge.
I'd say Scythe is a much safer and long-range alternative for flamethrowers with infinite ammo that wouldn't set you on fire instead. Spore bugs are cracked and fast as hell so I love to parry Scythe with warp-pack to create more space in emergency situations.
You might not like it due to zero stagger qualities which is mostly a must have against bugs but I recommend you to at least give it a try.
